Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

A separate China sales report cited a 12% increase using mismatched launch-period comparisons. A rumored touchscreen Mac was a prediction, not an Apple announcement.
Apple and the AAP publish a family digital-habits guide
On September 29, Apple announced a family guide prepared with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). It adapts the AAP’s Family Media Plan guidance to Apple’s parental-control features and recommends that families:
- Talk together about screen time.
- Create a child account.
- Set app and website safeguards.
- Schedule device use.
- Manage communications.
- Revisit the plan as children grow.
Apple says the updated Screen Time experience requires every product in a Family Sharing group to run iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27, as applicable. Availability of some features varies by region, language, and device model.
Creator Studio gains editing and collaboration features
Apple’s September 29 Creator Studio announcement covered updates across its creative and productivity apps. Pixelmator Pro on iPad adds selection and masking refinements, including controls intended to preserve fine detail around complex edges. On Mac, Final Cut Pro and Motion can edit Cinematic mode effects in native video from eligible iPhone 18 Pro models, with focus points and depth of field adjustable in the timeline.

Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform also received templates, collaboration changes, and other productivity features. These are features Apple announced; the announcement does not establish independent performance results or whether the subscription is good value for a particular user.
Final Cut Camera 2.4 adds controls for filming
Apple made Final Cut Camera version 2.4 available as a free update on September 29. On iPhone 18 Pro, the app supports variable aperture. Apple also lists video scopes, clean SDI output using an HDMI-to-SDI converter, and genlock offset among the added filming controls. Those are Apple’s release claims, not independent test findings.

Apple plans more explicit Full Disk Access controls on Mac
In an October 2 Apple Developer notice, Apple said it plans additional controls requiring explicit user action before an app receives Full Disk Access. Apple describes this as an unusually broad permission that can expose sensitive information, including files, email, messages, and browsing history. The notice points to increased risks as AI agents become more capable, but does not give an implementation or rollout date.
China iPhone 18 Pro sales report needs a time-window caveat
South China Morning Post reported on September 30, updating its story on October 2, that Counterpoint Research measured iPhone 18 Pro-series sales in China during the first three launch days as 12% higher than iPhone 17 Pro-series sales during that predecessor’s entire first week. The periods are unequal: this is not a like-for-like comparison of two full launch weeks. SCMP attributed the figure to Counterpoint Research; the underlying tracker report was not available in the reporting reviewed here.

Touchscreen Mac remains a prediction, not a confirmed product
A weekly roundup published October 3 also listed a prediction that Apple could introduce its first touchscreen Mac in October or November, along with reports about Apple’s management structure and smart-home devices and a court ruling allowing a former Apple Watch engineer’s breach-of-contract claims to continue. These items were not independently verified in the dated Apple announcements and notice covered above. Apple had not confirmed a touchscreen Mac in the evidence available for this week’s roundup, so the timing should be treated as speculation rather than a product plan.
