If the Tom’s Hardware app crashes, will not open, stays on a loading screen, or rejects your sign-in, work through the fixes in order: test your connection, restart the phone, update both the operating system and app, force-stop it, then clear its cache on Android. Reinstall only after the less-destructive steps fail. Login problems need a separate path because Tom’s Hardware’s account migration logged users out and expired cookies.
The official app launched on 14 October 2026 for free on Android and iOS. It provides article search, push notifications, personalized feeds, bookmarks, Tom’s Bench comparisons, and access to Tom’s Hardware Premium. Because it is new, an isolated app failure does not by itself prove that the service is down; no current official outage notice is established here.

Start by identifying the failure
The right fix depends on whether the app fails locally, cannot reach the service, or cannot authenticate your account. Before changing settings, note exactly what happens and whether other apps work.

Fast triage sequence for any Tom’s Hardware app problem
- Check connectivity. Open a different website and another app that uses the internet. If they also fail, restore the phone’s connection before troubleshooting Tom’s Hardware. If only Tom’s Hardware fails, continue with the app-specific steps.
- Restart the phone. A full restart clears temporary processes that can leave an app unresponsive.
- Install updates. Update the phone’s operating system and the Tom’s Hardware app from the device’s normal update controls. Retry immediately after both updates finish.
- Force-stop the app. Close it completely rather than leaving it suspended in the recent-apps view, then launch it again.
- Synchronize date and time. Turn on automatic date, time, and time-zone settings. Incorrect clock data can interfere with secure connections and account sessions.
- Clear Android cache, if applicable. Use the cache-clearing step described below. Do not clear data first.
- Reinstall the app. Remove and install it again only if the preceding steps did not help.
- Contact the developer. If other apps and websites work but Tom’s Hardware still fails after reinstalling, report the problem to the app developer with the device, operating-system version, app version, exact error, and steps that reproduce it.
This order follows Google’s published recovery sequence for apps that crash, will not open, stop responding, or otherwise malfunction. Cache and data removal, and uninstalling, can remove locally stored app information, so they belong late in the sequence.
When the app keeps crashing or will not open
1. Establish whether the phone or this app is at fault
Try a different website and a different installed app. If several apps cannot connect or respond, fix the phone’s connection or system state first. If Tom’s Hardware is the only failure, continue with the app-specific sequence instead of repeatedly changing network settings.
2. Restart, then update
Restart the phone and test the app once. Next, install any available operating-system update and Tom’s Hardware app update. A newly launched app can receive compatibility fixes as Android and iOS versions change, but no particular defective version is established here, so do not assume that a specific release is broken.

On Android, open the app’s entry in Settings, choose the control labelled Force stop, confirm, and launch Tom’s Hardware again. The exact menu wording can vary by phone manufacturer. On iPhone or iPad, close the app from the app switcher and reopen it; if it continues to fail, restart the device before considering deletion and reinstallation.

4. Clear Android cache
On Android, open Settings → Apps → Tom’s Hardware → Storage (the labels may be Storage & cache), then choose Clear cache. Reopen the app. This removes temporary files while preserving the app installation.
5. Clear Android app data only as a later step
If clearing cache does nothing, the same storage screen may offer Clear storage or Clear data. This resets local app state and can erase information stored on the device, so use it only after restart, updates, force-stop, and cache clearing have failed. You may need to sign in again afterward.
6. Reinstall
Uninstall Tom’s Hardware, restart the phone if the operating system requests it, and install the current official app again from the device’s app store. Reinstallation removes the local installation; account information that exists on the service may still require a fresh sign-in. If the clean install still crashes while other apps work, stop repeating local resets and contact the developer.
Fixing an endless loading screen
Separate a connection failure from stale app state
Open another site first. Then switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data, or from cellular data to a trusted Wi-Fi network, and retry. A loading screen that disappears after the network change points to the original connection rather than a Tom’s Hardware account problem.

Use the least destructive sequence
Restart the phone, update the operating system and app, and force-stop Tom’s Hardware before clearing any cache. On Android, clear only the cache first. Reinstall if the screen still never completes. This sequence preserves locally stored information for as long as possible.
Do not assume an outage
The available launch and support information does not confirm a current Tom’s Hardware outage. If other services work, record the time, network type, device, operating-system version, app version, and loading behavior, then send those details to the developer. An official status notice, if one is later posted, should take precedence over local troubleshooting.
Login, sign-out, and account-migration problems
Why migration can look like an app failure
Tom’s Hardware’s sign-in migration discussion says that the migration logged users out and expired cookies. A fresh installation or an apparently correct password therefore may not restore a session until old browser or embedded-login data is removed.
Handle a 500 error
If the sign-in flow displays a 500 error, delete the relevant Tom’s Hardware cookies and cached site data, then start the login again. Remove only the site data you are comfortable losing; clearing all browser data will sign you out of other sites as well. After clearing it, close and reopen the app before attempting authentication.

Password-reset email never arrives
- Confirm that you entered the email address associated with the Tom’s Hardware account.
- Check the spam or junk folder.
- Search alternate inbox tabs, such as Promotions or Updates, because automated messages can be sorted away from the primary inbox.
- Request the reset again only after checking those folders, so multiple requests do not leave you using an older link.
- If the reset still fails, contact [email protected] and describe the account issue without sending your password.
The migration guidance specifically points users to that address when password reset fails. Include the exact message and the time of the attempt so the support team can distinguish a delivery problem from an account-state problem.
Repeatedly signed out
Repeated sign-outs after migration are consistent with expired cookies or a session that was invalidated during the move. Clear the relevant cookies and cache, restart the login flow, and complete verification in one uninterrupted attempt. If the session expires again, escalate rather than repeatedly clearing app data.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.“Unable to configure verification page”
A historical Tom’s Hardware forum thread records the exact message “Unable to configure verification page.” Discussion of that case pointed to third-party-cookie handling and escalation to community managers or developers.
Treat that as a case-specific historical workaround, not a universal requirement for every current Android or iOS installation. If you see the message:
Best Value
- Check the browser or system web-view privacy settings involved in the sign-in flow.
- Ensure third-party cookies are not being blocked for the authentication page, where your platform provides that control.
- Retry once after changing the setting.
- If the page still cannot be configured, capture the exact wording, device and operating-system version, app version, and whether the failure occurs on Wi-Fi and cellular data.
- Send those details to Tom’s Hardware community support or the app developer.
Do not disable privacy protections globally or permanently just to work around one failed verification page. Restore your preferred setting after testing if it does not resolve the sign-in.
Android and iOS: what differs
Android
Android has the clearest documented recovery path: restart, update, force-stop, synchronize date and time, clear cache, clear data if necessary, reinstall, and contact the developer. The Settings labels differ between manufacturers, but the app-specific storage screen is the location to look for cache and data controls.
iOS and iPadOS
The app is available on iOS, but no authoritative iOS-only fix or version-specific defect is established in the available material. Use the shared steps first: test the connection, restart the device, update iOS and the app, close and reopen it, and reinstall only after those actions fail. Because iOS does not expose Android-style per-app cache controls, do not search for an equivalent hidden menu; deletion and reinstallation are the later reset option.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhen to stop troubleshooting and contact support
Contact the developer when Tom’s Hardware alone fails while other apps and websites work, especially after a restart, updates, force-stop, cache reset where available, and reinstall. Also escalate immediately for an account-specific password-reset failure or a recurring verification-page error.
- State whether you use Android or iOS and provide the operating-system version.
- Provide the Tom’s Hardware app version shown by your app store.
- Quote the exact error, including punctuation.
- Say whether the problem occurs on Wi-Fi, cellular data, or both.
- Explain whether other apps can reach the internet.
- List the steps already attempted and the result of each.
- For account issues, use the account email when requested by support, but never include your password or one-time verification code.
This information prevents support from sending you through the same generic steps and helps distinguish a local crash from a service-side or account-migration problem.
What the app includes once it works
The 14 October 2026 launch announcement describes a free official app for Android and iOS, optimized for smartphones and tablets. Its functions include searching Tom’s Hardware articles, receiving push notifications, building a personalized feed, saving bookmarks, using Tom’s Bench comparisons, and accessing Tom’s Hardware Premium. The announcement says Premium includes longer-form coverage and unlimited Bench use.
Those features also explain why different failures can appear differently: article feeds and Bench comparisons need a working connection, bookmarks and personalized feeds may require an authenticated session, and push notifications depend on the device’s notification permissions as well as app connectivity. If the app opens but one feature alone is missing, report that narrower symptom instead of treating it as a full app crash.

A compact decision path
- Several apps fail: restore connectivity, then restart the phone.
- Only Tom’s Hardware crashes: update, force-stop, clear Android cache if applicable, and reinstall as a last local reset.
- Only loading fails: change networks, restart, update, force-stop, then clear cache.
- Login fails after migration: clear relevant cookies and cached site data, then retry.
- Password reset email is missing: check spam and alternate inbox tabs; contact [email protected] if the reset still fails.
- Verification page cannot be configured: test third-party-cookie handling once, then escalate with the exact error and device details.
- Everything else works but Tom’s Hardware does not: contact the developer after completing the documented recovery sequence.
