Reports on 15 October 2026 described Elon Musk and Tesla demonstrating a redesigned second-generation Roadster with SpaceX-derived thruster technology near SpaceX’s McGregor, Texas, test site. A tokenized TSLA perpetual on Hyperliquid then rose nearly 5% over 24 hours, but that was a crypto derivative move—not a 5% rise in Tesla’s Nasdaq share price—and no evidence yet proves the prototype is certified, road-legal or ready for customer delivery.
What Tesla and SpaceX reportedly demonstrated
Axios and TechCrunch reported that Musk and Tesla unveiled the redesigned second-generation Roadster on 15 October 2026. An Euronext-syndicated account placed the event near SpaceX’s McGregor test site and described a dramatic airborne stunt involving SpaceX engineers or SpaceX-derived thruster technology.

Musk attributed the project to joint work by Tesla and SpaceX engineers, saying: “This is the culmination of incredible work by Tesla and SpaceX engineers working closely together to make something that you haven’t seen in any movie.” Tesla’s Roadster page was available, but the material reviewed did not provide a complete, independently readable production specification sheet.

Reported Roadster configurations
The Euronext report described three versions. Tesla had not supplied complete production documentation for each configuration in the material reviewed, so the descriptions below should be treated as reported configurations rather than final specifications.
| Version | Reported equipment or access | Seating and intended use | Reservation terms reported | Certification status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Performance | Configuration name reported; detailed hardware not stated | Not stated | $50,000 deposit shown on Tesla’s reservation page, according to Euronext | Not established |
| Thrust | Adds acceleration thrusters | Not stated | $250,000 deposit shown on Tesla’s reservation page, according to Euronext | Not established |
| Rocket | “Full flight system” reported | Single-seat; invite-only | No public deposit stated | No flight, road or production certification located |
The $50,000 and $250,000 figures are reported reservation-page deposits, not confirmed final vehicle prices. A deposit may also be subject to terms, refunds and delivery conditions that were not stated in the reports.
Did the Roadster really fly?
The reports describe a prototype demonstration with an airborne stunt. That establishes that Tesla presented a dramatic test event; it does not establish that a production Roadster can operate as an aircraft, take off safely in public spaces or meet aviation and automotive regulations.

- Certified flight performance, range, altitude, stability and landing procedures.
- Road homologation for a car carrying rocket or other high-energy propulsion hardware.
- Noise, exhaust, fuel or propellant handling, emergency shutdown and bystander-safety requirements.
- Final production design, manufacturing capacity and customer-delivery schedule.
- Whether any “flight system” will be legal or usable outside controlled test areas.
Tesla’s official Roadster material retrieved for the report did not resolve those questions. Until Tesla publishes certification and production documents, “flying Roadster” is an accurate description of the reported prototype concept and demonstration, not proof of a road-legal flying vehicle.

Why a tokenized Tesla product surged
The Crypto Times report concerned a tokenized TSLA perpetual traded on Hyperliquid. It reported a nearly 5% gain over the preceding 24 hours, a price around $379.20 at publication and a prior Nasdaq close of $362.44.
That instrument is a 24/7, USDC-settled derivative with leverage of up to 20×, according to the report. It is not the same asset as an ordinary Tesla share. A perpetual contract tracks a reference price and can be opened or closed around the clock; it does not itself give the holder the voting, dividend or direct ownership rights associated with a company share. The quoted price, liquidity and liquidation risk are specific to the trading venue.
| Exposure | What it represents | Trading schedule and settlement | Leverage | What the reports establish |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ordinary Tesla stock | A listed equity interest in Tesla | Exchange trading hours; conventional equity settlement | Not inherent in the share | The reported Nasdaq close was $362.44 |
| Hyperliquid tokenized TSLA perpetual | A venue-specific derivative referencing TSLA | 24/7 trading; USDC settlement | Up to 20× reported | Nearly 5% 24-hour rise; around $379.20 at publication |
| Roadster-themed meme coin | An unrelated crypto token using Roadster or Tesla imagery | Depends on its own market and issuer | Not stated | No Tesla, SpaceX or Musk endorsement established |
The tokenized contract’s move happened while U.S. equity markets were closed, making the Roadster reveal a plausible headline catalyst for crypto traders. The cited reports do not prove that the reveal caused the move, nor that the gain will remain when the stock market reopens. Leverage can amplify both gains and losses, and a tokenized derivative can trade differently from the underlying share.
Tokenized TSLA is not an official Roadster token
These products should not be conflated. The Hyperliquid instrument is a financial derivative referencing Tesla’s stock price. Bitrue described FTR as an unofficial Solana meme coin with no official ties to Tesla, SpaceX or Musk. The use of a company, product or founder’s name in a token’s branding is not evidence of authorization, endorsement, equity ownership or access to a Roadster reservation.

Before trading any similarly named asset, check the exact issuer, contract address, venue, collateral and settlement rules. A token that cannot identify a verifiable issuer or clear redemption mechanism should not be assumed to represent Tesla stock or any Tesla product.
The SpaceX “flying car” idea goes back to 2018
In 2018, Fox News reported Musk’s proposal for a SpaceX option package using approximately 10 small rocket thrusters around the car. Musk said it “maybe will even allow a Tesla to fly.” That was an aspirational description of a proposed option package, not evidence of a certified vehicle.
The 2026 accounts move the story beyond a proposal by describing a prototype demonstration. They still do not supply primary certification, homologation or final production documents for a flight-capable system. The historical promise and the new demonstration therefore belong in separate categories: concept language in 2018, reported prototype hardware and testing in 2026.
Quick Recap
What buyers and traders should verify next
- Look for Tesla’s final Roadster specification and reservation terms, including refund conditions and delivery obligations.
- For the Rocket or Thrust versions, require documentation covering propulsion, safety systems, operating limits and regulatory approvals.
- Confirm whether a claimed “Tesla token” is an equity-backed product, a perpetual derivative or an unrelated meme coin.
- Read the venue’s liquidation, funding, collateral and counterparty rules before using leverage.
- Do not treat a prototype demonstration, a reservation deposit or a short-term token price move as proof of production availability or investment value.
