Token Inspector is a Chrome extension that its creator, CapiLabs, says can extract design values from websites and export them as Tailwind configuration, Tokens Studio JSON, and inline SVGs. The creator also reports that Reddit automoderation removed a promotional post after its link was included. Those are claims in the product announcement, not independently verified extension results or a confirmed explanation from Reddit.
What Token Inspector says it does
The CapiLabs announcement describes an extension for turning a website’s visual design into reusable files. Its advertised workflow is to inspect computed CSS values, then export them in formats aimed at development and design-token workflows:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Tailwind configuration: values intended for use in a Tailwind project.
- Tokens Studio JSON: a JSON export for a token-oriented design workflow.
- Inline SVGs: a ZIP containing SVG files, according to the announcement.
CapiLabs says the extension runs client-side and presents extraction as a one-click process. The announcement does not provide independent test results, so the speed, completeness, and accuracy of extraction should be treated as unverified rather than established performance.

How extracted values fit into Tailwind
Exporting values is only part of making a site’s design usable in Tailwind. Tailwind’s documentation distinguishes its special @theme variables from ordinary CSS custom properties: theme variables influence which utility classes and variants Tailwind generates. For example, defining --color-mint-500 as a theme variable can enable classes such as bg-mint-500 and text-mint-500. A regular custom property declared under :root remains useful when a value should be available in CSS but should not create a Tailwind utility. See Tailwind’s theme-variable documentation.
#1 Best Overall
That distinction matters when reviewing an exported configuration. A list of colors or spacing values is not automatically a well-structured Tailwind theme; developers still need to decide which values belong in the theme namespace and which are ordinary CSS variables.
How the Figma and Tokens Studio connection fits
Figma describes variables as the way to use named, reusable design values in a Figma Design file. Its documented approach is to define primitive variables, connect semantic variables to those primitives, and use modes for contexts such as light and dark themes. Dev Mode can expose token names to developers, while Figma’s REST API can retrieve variable data. Figma also notes that styles remain useful for complex properties such as gradients and typography. Details are in Figma’s variables guide.
Token Inspector’s announced Tokens Studio JSON export is therefore a potential handoff into a token workflow, not proof that the exported file will match a particular Figma file’s variable structure or naming conventions. Teams should check the output against their existing primitives, semantic names, and modes before adopting it.
What happened with the Reddit post
The CapiLabs author wrote: “I tried sharing it on Reddit this morning to get my first 20 users, but the automods instantly nuked my post because of the link.” This is the author’s account of a promotional post being removed. The announcement does not include a moderation notice or moderator response, so it does not establish which automated system acted or why. It also describes removal of a Reddit post—not a block on installing or using the extension—and does not establish a general Reddit rule against links.

What is and is not established
- Announced: extraction of website design values, exports for Tailwind configuration and Tokens Studio JSON, and a ZIP of inline SVGs.
- Claimed by the creator: client-side operation and a one-click workflow.
- Not independently verified: extraction quality, coverage across sites, privacy behavior, and how well the exports work in a given project.
- Not established: current pricing, the availability of premium features, whether the promotion code mentioned in the announcement remains valid, or the precise reason the Reddit post was removed.
For category context only, the Chrome Web Store listing for DesignClone also describes webpage design extraction and exports for Figma and Tailwind. The listing displayed version 1.0.1 and an update date of September 12, 2026, when observed. That establishes the presence of an adjacent tool, not equivalent capabilities or a quality comparison. See the DesignClone Chrome Web Store listing.
