TJ Hughes is preparing to open a new store in Egremont, West Cumbria, before Christmas 2026. The retailer is taking the former Original Factory Shop premises and is targeting an opening in the middle to latter part of November, with recruitment planned for up to 15 staff.
When will TJ Hughes open in Egremont?
The current target is mid to late November 2026. Letting agent Carigiet Cowen said contractors were expected to begin work after the keys were handed over and that the store could open “by the middle or around the end of November.” That schedule would put the launch ahead of Christmas, but it remains a target rather than a guaranteed opening date.

The branch will be TJ Hughes’s first location in Egremont. The company’s chief operating officer, Jason Harmer, described the move as part of the broader growth of the TJ Hughes estate and said the retailer was excited to enter a new location.

Where is the new store going?
The store is planned for the former Original Factory Shop premises in Egremont. Carigiet Cowen described the property as a modern warehouse with a large car park. The agent completed the letting in 2026 and said the keys were due to be handed over before contractors started work.

The premises had already served the town as a retail site for several years. Harmer said TJ Hughes considered Egremont a strong location with a good community reputation and believed reopening the site for the chain would benefit both the town and the business.
How many jobs will the store create?
TJ Hughes plans to recruit up to 15 members of staff for the Egremont branch. A store-manager vacancy is also being advertised separately, so applicants should check the individual role description for management responsibilities, hours and application requirements.

The announcement does not state the final staffing structure, opening hours, pay rates or the date applications will close. Those details may differ between the manager position and other shop-floor, stock or customer-service roles.

TJ Hughes traces its business history to Liverpool, where it began in 1912. The company moved its Liverpool flagship from London Road to Church Street in autumn 2023. The Egremont project extends that long-running retail identity into a new West Cumbrian location rather than replacing an existing TJ Hughes branch.
