That gap, alongside weaker gold-coin demand and festive purchases shifting into Q3, were cited as reasons for the share-price pressure. The available reporting does not establish GST as the key overhang.
What Titan reported for Q2 FY27
Titan Company Limited’s October 6, 2026 filing covers the quarter ended September 30. It reported 25% year-on-year growth across its consumer businesses, not 25% growth in profit or earnings. Domestic business grew 22%, while international business grew 97%. Titan added 78 net stores, taking its combined consumer-business network to 3,758 as of September 2026.

Why did Titan shares fall after the 25% growth update?
Business Standard reported that Titan shares fell nearly 4% intraday on October 7, reaching an intraday low of ₹4,371. Its coverage said jewellery growth of 21% was below Nomura’s roughly 25% expectation; the core brands Tanishq, Mia and Zoya were reported at 20%, also below that estimate. These are comparisons with one brokerage’s expectation, not proof that Titan missed the entire market’s consensus.
The same coverage cited several possible sources of investor concern: gold-coin sales declined from a high base, the Shradh period affected timing, a higher gold-price environment had created a demanding comparison, and festive demand shifted from Q2 into Q3. These explanations were reported in market coverage; the available evidence does not establish any one of them as the sole cause of the share move.
The timing distinction matters. The Economic Times reported that Titan closed October 6 at ₹4,550, down 0.66% for that session. That was the prior session’s closing move, not the nearly 4% intraday decline reported the following morning.
What was happening inside jewellery demand?
Titan said demand was healthy through most of the quarter but softened toward the end as the festive calendar shifted into Q3 FY27. The mix was uneven: studded jewellery grew in the early thirties, plain gold jewellery grew about 20%, and investment-led coin demand declined by a high single digit from a high base. Buyer growth was in the mid-single digits, while average ticket size growth was double digit.
This helps explain why the headline jewellery number can look weaker than some product categories: strong studded growth coexisted with lower coin demand and a late-quarter moderation. The timing shift also means some festive demand was expected in a later quarter, rather than appearing in Q2.

That is not established by the available sources. Titan’s filing discussed the festive calendar, business growth and coin demand but did not mention GST. The contemporaneous reporting on the share-price decline focused on jewellery growth relative to Nomura’s estimate and demand timing, without attributing the decline to GST.

The exact GST treatment of Titan’s product categories and any transition effect are not resolved by these reports. It would therefore be premature to say GST caused the jewellery slowdown or the stock sell-off. For now, GST remains an open question rather than a confirmed explanation.
