Yes—Truecaller can identify incoming callers in real time on an iPhone. The feature requires iOS 18.2 or later, the latest compatible Truecaller app, an active Premium subscription, and enabled caller-identification extensions in iPhone settings. It is not a free, universal replacement for Android-style caller ID.
What Truecaller’s live caller ID does
With the required software, account and settings, Truecaller can identify an incoming personal, business, spam, scam or robocall while the call is arriving. Information may include a name, location, profile image, business status or spam classification when that information exists in Truecaller’s database. Coverage and accuracy vary, so an unidentified or incorrectly labeled call is still possible.

This is different from copying a number into Truecaller for a manual reverse lookup. It is also different from the older Siri Shortcut workflow, which required a spoken command such as “Hey Siri, search Truecaller.” The current experience is integrated through Apple’s caller-identification framework and the Phone settings, not a floating overlay that replaces the Phone app. Truecaller announced the iPhone feature on January 22, 2025, so it is now an established capability rather than a new launch (Truecaller’s announcement).

- iOS 18.2 or later: this is the requirement for Live Caller ID.
- Current Truecaller release: install the latest version available for your region. Version 14.0 was the original launch requirement, not a statement of the current version.
- Truecaller Premium: required for the full live incoming-call experience on iOS.
- Connectivity: an active cellular service and mobile-data or Wi-Fi connection are needed for the relevant lookup functions.
- Enabled extensions: every relevant Truecaller switch must be turned on under the iPhone’s Phone settings.
Do not confuse app compatibility with feature compatibility. Truecaller’s terms describe app support from iOS 16, while the current U.S. App Store listing says the app requires iOS 17 or later. Neither means that Live Caller ID works on those older releases: the live feature specifically needs iOS 18.2 or newer (Truecaller terms; App Store listing). Check Settings > General > Software Update to see whether your iPhone can install a supported iOS release.

How to enable Live Caller ID
- Update the iPhone to iOS 18.2 or later.
- Install or update Truecaller from the App Store, then sign in.
- Activate Premium if automatic live identification is the reason you are using the app.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Phone.
- Open Call Blocking & Identification.
- Turn on all Truecaller switches.
- Reopen Truecaller. If prompted, complete any remaining setup.
Apple manages third-party caller-identification services from the Phone settings; labels can vary slightly between iOS releases and device configurations (Apple’s Phone settings guide).
Optional spam protection
For Premium spam blocking, open Truecaller > Protect > Auto-block spam. Truecaller identifies this as an iOS 18 Premium feature (Truecaller for iOS). To support older, locally updated identification data, also check Settings > General > Background App Refresh > Truecaller and enable it (Truecaller’s Background App Refresh guidance).

What to expect when a call arrives
If the extensions are active and the requirements are met, caller information can appear before you answer. A match is not guaranteed: newly assigned numbers, numbers missing from the database, incomplete records, community-label errors and spoofed caller IDs can all produce no result or a wrong result. Treat the display as a database estimate, not proof of who is calling. Never disclose a password, one-time code, banking detail or other sensitive information solely because a familiar name appears.
Troubleshooting
Truecaller is missing from Call Blocking & Identification
On some iOS versions, the extension can take several hours to register. Force-quit Settings, restart the iPhone, confirm that iOS and Truecaller are updated, and check the menu again. If the entry is still unavailable after a day, Truecaller recommends deleting the app, restarting the iPhone, reinstalling it, then returning to Settings > Apps > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification and enabling every Truecaller switch (Truecaller support).

Calls are not being identified
- Confirm that Premium is active and you are signed into the intended account.
- Check that iOS is 18.2 or newer and Truecaller is current.
- Verify every Truecaller extension is enabled; disabling and re-enabling the relevant switch can refresh registration.
- Ensure mobile data or Wi-Fi is working.
- Enable Background App Refresh if you rely on older local identification or database updates.
- Allow for numbers that are unlisted, newly issued, spoofed or not confidently matched.
Switch names and ordering differ between iOS releases, so do not rely on a particular numbered “part” or label from an older support screenshot.

Truecaller says its Live Caller ID design uses encrypted lookups and returns an encrypted response that is decrypted on the device (Truecaller’s implementation explanation). That is the company’s description of the technical design, not a promise that the service is anonymous or risk-free.

The App Store privacy disclosure says the developer may collect or link categories such as contact information, search history, identifiers, usage data, location and other data depending on how the app is used. Apple notes that these disclosures are supplied by the developer and are not verified by Apple (App Store privacy disclosure). Review those terms before subscribing if the data trade-off concerns you.
Is Premium worth it?
Premium is most defensible if you regularly receive unknown or nuisance calls and want automatic identification and spam blocking before answering. Occasional users may get enough value from the free app’s manual lookups and business identification, or from Apple and carrier tools already available on their line. Either way, Live Caller ID on iPhone is a paid, iOS 18.2-and-later feature—not a free capability delivered to every iPhone.
