1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesShort answer: Ting can be a good fit if its service works well where you live, you use a compatible unlocked phone, and your data needs match the plan. Its published options range from pay-per-use data to plans with larger allowances. But nationwide coverage claims and individual reviews do not establish how Ting will perform at your address or how often customers encounter billing or support problems. Check coverage, device eligibility, and the exact plan terms before switching.
Who Ting is likely to suit
Ting is worth considering if you want to manage mobile costs, have modest or predictable data use, and can verify dependable coverage at home, work, and along your usual routes. It is a less certain choice if you need consistently heavy high-speed data, rely on hotspot, or want to switch without first checking how support handles account issues.

The decision is local and personal: a low advertised price does not make up for weak reception where you need it, and a phone being unlocked does not guarantee compatibility.

| Option | Published price | Data details in Ting’s help-center table |
|---|---|---|
| Flex | $10 per line, plus $5 per shared GB | 0 GB included; data is shared across devices on the account and charged at $5 per GB. Ting says use above 1 GB automatically incurs another $5 per GB, without reducing speed to 2G. |
| Set 5 | $25 per line | 5 GB included; hotspot is available for the first 5 GB under the applicable fixed-data plan. |
| Set 12 | $35 per line | 12 GB included; hotspot is available for the first 8 GB under the applicable fixed-data plan. |
| Unlimited | $45 per line | 22 GB included in the help-center table; hotspot is available for the first 12 GB under the applicable fixed-data plan. |
| Unlimited Pro | $55 per line | 35 GB included in the help-center table; hotspot is available for the first 18 GB under the applicable fixed-data plan. |
| Unlimited 25 offer | $25 per month; Ting advertises $10 per month for Ting Internet customers | Offer details are not established by the help-center table cited here; check eligibility and terms with Ting. |
These are Ting’s published terms, not a guarantee that the same plans or offers will remain available. The help center says fixed-data plans offer top-ups or 2G-speed throttling after included data is used; it lists a one-time fast-data top-up at $5 and says hotspot is unavailable from a data top-up. Check the plan-specific terms before relying on hotspot or extra high-speed data. Sources: Ting’s mobile plan page and Ting’s price-plan help article.
Estimate your total cost, not just the line price
Before comparing Ting with another carrier, estimate your monthly data use and include any shared-data charges, top-ups, hotspot needs, taxes, fees, and eligibility-linked discounts. Flex may suit low or variable use, while a fixed-data plan makes the included allowance clearer. If your usage varies substantially, compare a typical month with a high-use month rather than assuming the cheapest starting price will be your usual bill.
Coverage and reliability depend on your locations
Ting advertises nationwide LTE and 5G coverage. That claim does not establish reception inside your home, at work, or on the roads you use regularly. The available information does not establish the host network for every plan or provide location-specific performance evidence.

Use Ting’s current coverage tools with your actual locations, then confirm which network and plan would serve your line. If coverage is essential, ask about any available way to validate service before porting your number. Do not assume that promotional claims or another customer’s reception will predict yours.
What customer reviews can—and cannot—tell you
Ting’s own testimonial page features praise for low bills and helpful support. One named testimonial says, “When you call Ting, a real person answers the phone! On top of that, I get the exact same network at a fraction of the price.” That is a customer’s statement published by Ting, not an independently verified guarantee of support or network performance.
Recent self-selected submissions on Trustpilot include complaints involving billing, payment problems, service suspension, cancellation, phone unlocking, support access, and number porting. BBB customer reviews also contain mixed individual accounts, including reports of billing after cancellation, compatibility confusion, and delayed technical support, alongside positive reports about reception or service. These submissions can point to issues worth checking, but they do not show how common those problems are or establish a representative satisfaction rating.

Ting’s testimonial page also refers to more than 10,000 mobile customers surveyed and links to a 2019 report. Treat that as an older provider-published claim, not a current independent ranking. The cited Consumer Reports provider table is historical: it was published in January 2023 and describes a 2022 Winter Survey of 39,402 US members and 41,734 provider ratings. Consumer Reports says its overall score draws on value, customer support, data service, cellular reception, and consumer experience, and cautions that its members may not represent the general US population. The available table text does not clearly associate every displayed numeric rating with Ting, so those figures should not be used as a current Ting score.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check your phone and account before switching
- Confirm the exact phone model. Ting says a bring-your-own phone must be unlocked before activation. Check exact-model compatibility with Ting before buying a phone or beginning a number port; unlocked status alone is not enough.
- Verify the plan details. Confirm the plan name and price offered to you, included high-speed data, what happens when it runs out, hotspot limits, and any top-up charges.
- Check support and account procedures. Find the current contact options and hours, how technical issues are escalated, and the steps for cancellation and number porting. Reviewers report mixed experiences in these areas, but their reports do not establish how frequently problems occur.
- Keep your current line active during the transition. Confirm the porting and unlocking procedures with both carriers, and do not cancel your existing service before the Ting line is active and your number transfer is complete.
How to decide whether Ting is worth switching to
- Ting is a plausible fit if local coverage checks out, your phone is both unlocked and compatible, and your expected data use fits the plan’s rules and total cost.
- Compare alternatives carefully if you need high-speed data beyond the included allowance, depend on hotspot, have uncertain reception, or cannot tolerate delays in resolving account problems.
- Do not decide from star ratings alone. Ting’s testimonials, individual complaints, and older survey material have different sources, dates, and methods; none by itself establishes your likely experience.
When comparing another carrier, focus on reception in the places you use your phone, the actual network assigned to the plan, total monthly cost, data behavior, device eligibility, support access, and the steps for keeping your number.
