Those are plans he described to Fox News Digital—not independently verified protections. The report, published October 3, 2026, did not establish that the app had launched, received regulatory approval or become available in app stores.
What Hayut says Safe Love will do
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Hayut described a service that would ask users to upload government identification and take a selfie. He said the app would reject profile photos that differ from the selfie by more than 15%. That figure is a proposed matching rule attributed to Hayut, not a validated measure of profile authenticity or safety.
He also described an SOS feature that would immediately record audio and video, share the user’s location and pass the information to law enforcement. The report does not independently verify how the feature would work, whether authorities would receive the information, or what response users could expect.
Hayut told the outlet that the app was in a late regulatory phase and might be released within days or weeks. That was his estimate, not confirmation of approval or a launch date. Fox News Digital said it contacted Apple and Google for comment; the report did not provide a response from either company.

Why the identity of the app’s promoter matters
Fox News Digital reported that Hayut confirmed convictions for fraud, theft and forgery in Israel and Finland in 2015 and 2019. Details about sentences and custody in the report are attributed to Hayut and prior reporting it cites, so they should not be treated as independently checked court-record findings here.
Netflix’s account of The Tinder Swindler identifies Hayut as Simon Leviev and describes the documentary as following women he met through dating apps and defrauded. The film is a documentary account; its depiction should not be conflated with a court’s finding on every detail.

Hayut framed the proposed app as a response to his public reputation: “The idea came from me being the Tinder Swindler,” he told Fox News Digital. “They say I made the dating environment unsafe. So I thought, ‘All right. Let’s make it safe.’” That is his explanation for the idea, not evidence that the product is effective or that users should trust it.
Can an ID check make a dating app safe?
An ID-and-selfie check could, if implemented reliably, make some forms of impersonation harder. But a verified identity does not establish that someone is honest, harmless or using the app for the reasons they claim. The FBI and FTC advice on romance scams does not establish that this particular type of check prevents fraud or physical harm, and the available reporting provides no independent effectiveness testing for Safe Love.

The proposed SOS function also raises practical questions the report does not answer: how a user activates it, whether recording can be stopped, who can access the files, how long audio, video and location data are retained, how they are secured, and what happens if law enforcement cannot respond. Until those details and the app’s implementation are independently established, the features are promises rather than a basis for relying on the service in an emergency.
How to spot and avoid a romance scam on any platform
The FBI defines romance scams as cases in which “a criminal uses a fake online identity to gain a victim’s affection and trust.” Its advice is useful regardless of which dating service someone uses:

- Take time to get to know a match, ask questions and be alert to inconsistent details.
- Search profile photos and other profile information to see whether they appear elsewhere or conflict with the person’s story.
- Be cautious if someone quickly tries to move the conversation away from the dating service.
- Never send money to someone you know only online or by phone.
The FTC’s February 2025 alert describes a common pattern: a match seeks private communication, avoids meeting, then asks for money using an urgent story or offers an investment. The agency advises against sending money or gifts to a love interest you have not met in person. It also recommends discussing the situation with someone you trust, searching for similar scam reports and reverse-image-searching the profile picture.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to do if a match asks you for money
- Do not send money or gifts. An urgent need, investment opportunity or request for help does not make the person’s identity or story reliable.
- Pause and verify independently. Search for similar reports and reverse-image-search the profile picture; do not rely on information or links the match supplies.
- Talk to someone you trust. A second perspective can help identify pressure tactics or inconsistencies.
- Keep the platform’s protections in play. Be wary of pressure to shift to private channels, and use the dating service’s available reporting tools if you suspect fraud.
These steps follow FBI and FTC consumer guidance; they are safeguards, not a guarantee that a scam will be detected or that a platform can prevent it.
