The practical choice depends on whether you need to follow activity around an account you manage, discover posts using eligible brand hashtags, or handle comments and reporting in the same workflow.
What TikTok monitoring means in these tools
“TikTok monitoring” can refer to two different jobs: tracking comments and handle mentions around your own connected business account, or finding public posts associated with approved brand hashtags. The sources each vendor documents, their history limits, and their refresh cadence matter more than a broad “social listening” label.

For either product, start by defining the exact messages you need: comments on your videos, explicit @mentions of your handle, or public hashtag posts. Neither vendor’s cited TikTok documentation supports treating its TikTok coverage as a complete public firehose or open-ended keyword search.

Connected account monitoring
Brandwatch says TikTok is available in Listen and requires authentication of an owned TikTok account to index mentions from that channel. Its documentation lists mentions of the brand’s TikTok handle in videos, comments, or replies, one year of historical data for the connected channel, and measurement of likes, shares, and comments from videos mentioning the brand in the last 90 days. The account’s top 1,000 mentions and performance metrics refresh every 24 hours. See Brandwatch’s Sources for Listen Mentions.

Verified brand hashtags
Separately, Brandwatch documents tracking up to 50 verified brand hashtags and up to 1,000 posts containing one or more of those hashtags from the connected account. Collection begins within 24 hours of adding the source; it does not provide hashtag history from before that date. Eligibility and coverage should be confirmed for the specific hashtags you intend to track. Details are in Brandwatch’s Tracking Content Sources in Listen.
Broader Listen features are not TikTok query guarantees
Brandwatch’s Listen product page lists Boolean search, unlimited search queries, historical data, multiple languages, sentiment analysis, alerts for mention spikes or drops, mention exploration, and social inbox integration. Those are broader product claims; they do not establish that TikTok supports unrestricted Boolean searches. See Brandwatch Listen.

How Sprout Social handles TikTok
Connected profile data
Sprout’s Listening documentation says connected TikTok profiles can provide comments on videos from the connected profile and @mentions of the connected handle in video captions and comments. The account must be an authenticated TikTok Business Account, and posts must be public. Mention data requires an explicit @mention. Sprout says connected-profile data updates every 24 hours and has a 30-day default backfill.

It states, “No – TikTok does not support ‘Key Word’ based querying at this time.” This is specific to Sprout’s connected-profile TikTok source, not a claim about every monitoring tool. Public brand-hashtag data and backfill
Sprout lists a separate public TikTok Brand Hashtags source: posts from a business page using its brand hashtag. The documentation describes automatic collection of popular posts over 30 days and manual backfill up to 90 days, subject to approved-hashtag and top-post limits. Data updates every 24 hours based on TikTok’s Top Post criteria.
For connected accounts, Sprout lists a 30-day default automatic backfill. Manual backfill is documented up to 365 days for comments on the top 500 videos and up to 90 days for mentions, with limits involving the top 1,000 videos and comments. These limits differ by source and message type; consult Sprout’s data availability and limitations page for the source-specific conditions.
Publishing and response workflows
Sprout’s TikTok integration page describes profile reporting, cross-network comparisons, Smart Inbox comment management, scheduling, and a shared content calendar. These can be useful if you want to publish and respond in one platform, but management tools do not by themselves mean Listening captures more public TikTok conversations. See Sprout’s TikTok management tools.

The figures describe different source types and collection rules, so they are not a single like-for-like history measure. Neither comparison column should be read as proof of unrestricted keyword discovery across public TikTok.

Choose based on owned-account care
If your priority is responding to activity around your own account, first check that your team can connect the required business profile. Then verify whether the tool captures the specific comment and mention types you care about, how frequently those records appear, and which historical items can be retrieved. A daily refresh may not suit workflows that require immediate moderation.
Choose based on hashtag discovery
If your goal is finding public posts about a campaign or brand, ask the vendor to demonstrate your actual hashtags and show the returned posts. Confirm whether a hashtag qualifies, whether the posts come from the source you expect, and how much backfill is available. A hashtag source is not equivalent to general keyword search.
Choose based on the surrounding workflow
Consider whether listening needs to connect to scheduling, analytics, comment handling, reporting, or cross-channel work. Brandwatch lists Boolean search, sentiment analysis, alerts, historical data, and source exploration among Listen features; Sprout describes reporting, scheduling, content-calendar, and inbox workflows for TikTok. Evaluate these as workflow capabilities separately from the precise TikTok data each source provides.
What to verify before buying
- Whether your TikTok account type can be authenticated and connected.
- Which message types are collected: video comments, caption mentions, comments containing @mentions, replies, or hashtag posts.
- Whether your required hashtags are eligible or verified and what post limits apply.
- Refresh cadence and source-specific historical backfill.
- Whether the vendor can demonstrate your exact monitoring query and export the records you need.
- How listening fits with publishing, moderation, analytics, and cross-channel reporting.
- Current plan entitlement and total quoted price; the cited documentation does not establish current prices or plan availability.
Sprout’s Social Listening product page says the tool processes up to 50,000 posts per second and an average 600 million messages a day, citing Forrester’s The Total Economic Impact™ of Sprout Social (2023), a commissioned study based on a composite customer. That vendor-reported figure is not a TikTok-specific coverage metric or a directly comparable result for Brandwatch. The reviewed official sources do not establish a comparable Brandwatch TikTok throughput figure. See Sprout’s Social Media Listening page.
