A MIXED report published October 6, 2026 says Dragon’s Dogma 2, CONTROL Resonant, and The Blood of Dawnwalker were rated Unsupported on Steam Deck but Verified on Steam Machine in a snapshot of Steam’s global best-seller chart. For all three games, the report identifies graphics performance as the failing Deck test. The ratings reflect a snapshot taken October 5 at 12:42 UTC, not a fresh check of Valve’s current data.
Which games had different Steam Deck and Steam Machine ratings?
The October 5 snapshot covered the 100 entries then shown on Steam’s global best-seller chart. It listed these three games as Unsupported on Deck and Verified on Machine:

- Dragon’s Dogma 2
- CONTROL Resonant
- The Blood of Dawnwalker
MIXED reported graphics performance as the sole failing Deck test for each. Ratings can change after retesting or other updates, so the dated report does not establish what badge a game displays today. The chart also changes during the day; this sample is not representative of the full Steam catalogue. MIXED’s October 6 report
Why can a game be Unsupported on Deck but Verified on Machine?
Valve evaluates Steam Deck and Steam Machine compatibility independently. A badge on one device does not automatically determine the other device’s rating, except for one explicit guarantee: Valve says every game Verified on Deck is guaranteed to be Verified on Machine. It does not state the reverse guarantee.
#1 Best Overall
- 1TB NVMe SSD
- 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display with premium anti-glare etched glass, 7.4" Diagonal display size up to 90Hz refresh rate
- Wi-Fi 6E
- 50Whr battery; 3-12 hours of gameplay (content-dependent)
- Carrying case with removable liner
The reported difference is notable because the three Deck failures were performance-related. Valve’s published default performance floor is 30 fps at 800p on Deck and 30 fps at 1080p on Machine. A title may therefore pass one device’s performance checks and fail the other’s; the two ratings apply different hardware and test conditions. Valve’s documentation gives the thresholds but does not provide a specific technical explanation for these three games’ different outcomes.
What do Verified and Unsupported mean?
Valve’s Steam Deck and Steam Machine compatibility documentation defines the labels by whether a game passes device-specific checks:
Rank #2
- International (UK) Version
- 7.4” diagonal, HDR OLED, 1280 x 800 x RGB, up to 90Hz Refresh rate, High performance touch, <0.1 ms Response time, 1,000 nits peak brightness (HDR), 600 nits (SDR)
- SteamOS 3.0 (Arch-based)
- 512GB NVMe SSD, 16GB LPDDR5 on-board RAM (5500 MT/s quad 32-bit channels), microSD UHS-I supports SD, SDXC and SDHC
- 6 nm AMD APU, CPU: Zen 2 4c/8t, 2.4-3.5GHz (up to 448 GFlops FP32
- Verified: “Your game passes all compatibility checks. No configuration work is required for users to access all game functionality.”
- Unsupported: “Your game does not function on this device due to incompatibility with Proton or specific hardware components.”
In this report, Unsupported on Deck was tied to graphics performance. That is the recorded test result; it does not by itself say whether the game can be made to run acceptably through user adjustments.
Why some Deck compatibility flags do not apply on Machine
Compatibility checks include more than performance. Valve does not perform display tests for Steam Machine because resolution and text size can vary with the size and type of display. That means a Deck flag about interface text legibility need not carry over to Machine. A difference in badges should be read alongside the actual failing test and whether that test applies to the other device, rather than treated as a universal verdict about a game.

What else changed in the October 5 top-100 sample?
Across the chart entries with ratings, MIXED reported these totals:
| Rating | Steam Deck | Steam Machine |
|---|---|---|
| Verified | 38 | 47 |
| Playable | 28 | 23 |
| Unsupported | 19 | 15 |
| Unknown | 15 | 15 |
These are counts reported for the October 5, 2026 snapshot at 12:42 UTC, not live catalogue totals. Three of the 100 chart entries were Steam hardware devices—Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Deck—and had no compatibility rating.
Rank #4
- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
The report says ten entries had a better rating on Machine. Six moved from Playable on Deck to Verified on Machine: Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, ARC Raiders, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil Requiem, HELLDIVERS 2, and Risk of Rain 2. The report attributes four of those Deck Playable ratings to interface-text legibility and two to a default configuration that was not performant. Bodycam moved from Unsupported on Deck to Playable on Machine; the three games above were the remaining Unsupported-to-Verified cases. MIXED

Yes. Valve’s stated guarantee is one-way: a game Verified on Steam Deck is guaranteed Verified on Steam Machine. Valve does not say that a Machine Verified game is necessarily Deck Verified, as the three reported examples illustrate.
