Three Days of Happiness is a complete one-volume manga adaptation of Sugaru Miaki’s novel, with Shouichi Taguchi credited on the manga edition. Its hook is stark: a nearly twenty-year-old student sells almost all of his remaining lifespan, leaving himself three months to discover what makes life worth living. That premise gives the adaptation a clear emotional question; the omnibus is the choice for readers who want to experience it as a comic rather than as prose.
What is the manga about?
Yen Press’s synopsis introduces Kusunoki as someone who once believed he was destined for great things but has become an unmotivated college student without dreams or money. He learns that he can sell his remaining years and chooses to keep only three months. The story follows him through that compressed stretch of time, with Miyagi assigned to monitor him.

The premise turns an abstract question—how much is life truly worth?—into a deadline. Kusunoki has to confront not just what he has lost, but what he might still value. The setup also gives the relationship between Kusunoki and Miyagi a particular pressure: their time together takes place against the knowledge that his remaining time is limited.
What to expect from the adaptation
Yen Press classifies the manga as drama, fantasy, and romance. Those labels point to a story that mixes an extraordinary bargain with intimate questions about regret, connection, and purpose. The adaptation’s central challenge is to make Kusunoki’s changing idea of a worthwhile life convincing while keeping the lifespan-sale premise from becoming merely a countdown.

Readers considering the manga should expect the story to be experienced through illustrated scenes and pacing rather than prose narration. The publisher describes it as an adaptation of the popular novel, but the official listings do not establish that one version is artistically superior. If you want to assess the story’s prose form or compare the adaptation with its source, the novel is a separate edition, not another format of the manga.
Is the manga omnibus the right edition for you?
- Choose the manga if you want the illustrated adaptation collected in a single volume.
- Choose the prose novel if you specifically want Sugaru Miaki’s novel rather than the comic adaptation.
- Check the ISBN before ordering if a store listing only says Three Days of Happiness; the two English products have different identifiers.
Yen Press lists the manga omnibus in paperback and digital editions. Its paperback listing is rated Older Teen (OT), and the digital listing carries the same reported page count and rating. Retail availability and prices can change, so confirm the listing with the retailer before buying.

Verdict
Three Days of Happiness: The Complete Omnibus is a straightforward pick if you want the manga adaptation in one collected volume: its lifespan-sale premise supplies a potent deadline, while Kusunoki’s time with Miyagi gives that deadline a human focus. Buy or borrow the manga if illustrated storytelling is what you want; choose the separately published novel if you want the prose source. The official listing confirms the edition details, but it does not provide independent critical reception or a basis for ranking the two versions.
