Delhi Police arrested three people in connection with an alleged extortion racket targeting a Delhi businessman and linked by police to the Goldy Brar gang, according to a Press Trust of India report carried by Hindustan Times on October 2, 2026. Police said the callers demanded ₹1 crore and that an alleged plan to fire at the businessman’s home was foiled before it was carried out. These are police allegations reported by PTI; the account does not report a court finding establishing guilt.

Who was arrested, and what roles did police allege?

The PTI report said police arrested three alleged operatives, but its opening summary does not make clear that the headline’s “three” refers only to the people named in the earlier arrests. It separately reports the apprehension of a suspected shooter on October 1. The arrests and alleged roles were reported as follows:

  • Aarif alias Pistol, 32: Police described him as an operational link between callers based in Dubai and associates in India. They alleged he offered money to a Dubai-based associate called Aarish to make the extortion call and instructed him to speak in Haryanvi. Aarif was reportedly arrested in Vejalpur, Ahmedabad, on September 24, with Gujarat Police assistance.
  • Mubarik alias Gullu: Police identified him as a key conspirator and alleged that he helped devise the plan and arranged accommodation in Kirari for shooters. He was reportedly arrested in Delhi on September 25.
  • Nawab Ali alias Sonij: Described as a suspected shooter, he was reportedly apprehended on October 1 from a moving train near Rewari, with Railway Protection Force assistance.

Police reportedly said Aarif had previously been involved in 12 cases registered between 2016 and 2026 at Kairana police station in Shamli district, including cases involving attempted murder, extortion, criminal intimidation, rioting and Arms Act offences. That is a reported count of cases in which police said he was involved, not a count of convictions.

What happened to the Delhi businessman?

Police said businessman Praveen Jain received three missed calls at about 8:15 p.m. on September 16, 2026. At about 9:27 p.m., his son Ayush reportedly received a call from a UAE-based mobile number. The caller allegedly claimed to be associated with Goldy Brar, threatened the family and demanded ₹1 crore. A case was registered at Roop Nagar police station on September 17, according to the report’s account of police statements.

Police alleged that the same UAE-based number was later used in a separate threat against a construction businessman’s family in Rohini. They suspected four shooters had been engaged—two from Panipat and two from Khalapar in Muzaffarnagar—and said the plan was to fire multiple rounds at Jain’s Roop Nagar residence before renewing the extortion demand. Police said preventive arrangements at the residence foiled the alleged attack before it was carried out.

Was another businessman threatened?

Yes. The report described a separate alleged extortion threat involving a construction businessman’s family in Sector 1, Rohini. On September 19, the businessman’s younger brother reportedly received two WhatsApp calls from the same UAE number and a 37-second audio message. The caller allegedly claimed gang affiliation, demanded ₹1 crore within 48 hours and threatened firing. A case was registered at Vijay Vihar police station on September 24, according to the report.

What remains under investigation?

As of the report’s October 2 publication, police were pursuing other accused, including suspected shooters, and trying to trace the caller in Dubai. They were also examining communications, digital evidence and financial transactions. DCP Niharika Bhatt was reported as saying police analysis indicated that the calls had allegedly been routed through virtual private server and data-centre infrastructure linked to the UAE. The report did not provide technical records or independent verification of that analysis.

The account is based on one PTI report carried by Hindustan Times. It attributes the key claims to police but does not include court filings, responses from the accused or independent confirmation of the alleged calls, links or conspiracy. Arrests and police allegations do not establish guilt.
