Three graded English Southern Islands cards, all PSA 10, were reported to have brought a combined $1.176 million in October 2026. Polygon’s report puts the Holo Mew #1 at $840,000 and the Holo Togepi #4 and Holo Marill #11 at $168,000 each. The figures are secondhand. The auction listings and completed-sale records behind them are not cited in the coverage, and this article has not confirmed them.
One correction to the headline’s framing: Southern Islands was not a promotional release. It was a retail collection of 18 cards from 2001, which is why these three cards are often described as rare collector items rather than promo cards.

What was reported to have sold
Polygon, reporting on October 7, 2026, identified three sales. All three cards were graded PSA 10 and came from the English Southern Islands set.

The “nearly $1.2 million” in the headline is the arithmetic total of those three prices, not a separately published auction-house figure.

Polygon also says there were 20 PSA 10 copies of the Mew card worldwide. That count is Polygon’s; it has not been checked against PSA’s public population data for this article.
What Southern Islands is
Southern Islands is an 18-card Pokémon Trading Card Game collection. Serebii lists its release as July 31, 2001, and identifies Mew, Togepi, and Marill among its cards.

A specialist set history describes the English Southern Islands Collection as a Wizards of the Coast retail product released on July 31, 2001. Per that history, which cites an archived Wizards of the Coast FAQ, the package contained all 18 cards, six postcards, protective sleeves, and three randomized booster packs. The Art of Pokémon lists its suggested retail price as $19.99, citing the same archived FAQ.

The artwork was designed so that cards connect into larger island scenes. That is useful background for collectors, but nothing in the coverage links that design to the auction prices.

Why these numbers need careful reading
Three factors limit what these results can tell you.
- Verification. The prices come from one news report. Coverage does not cite the lot pages or final sale records, so the sales are reported, not independently verified.
- Grade and population. All three cards were PSA 10. A PSA 10 Mew is a specific, scarce grade of a specific card; the reported figure does not describe other grades or unsold copies.
- One-off results. Men’s Journal, which also reported the Mew and Togepi figures, questioned how quickly prices moved. Its comparisons are secondary reporting and do not establish a steady market trend or predict future prices.
Earlier sales cited for comparison
Men’s Journal reports two earlier sales that put the October figures in context. A PSA 10 Mew reportedly sold for $85,000 in July 2026. A Togepi reportedly sold for $9,300 in June 2025. Both are secondhand reports of individual sales and are not a price index.

Comparing the three October results directly requires matching the card, grade, sale date, and whether the transaction is backed by an original auction record. Without those details, the figures are not equivalent-condition market averages.

How to check a Southern Islands sale yourself
- Confirm the card, set number, and grade on the certification label, using the PSA certification number on the slab.
- Look up the certification in PSA’s public certification lookup to see the grade and the card identity recorded for that cert number.
- Find the original auction listing and the completed-sale record, not a news summary, before treating a price as a sale.
- Note the sale date. A price from months earlier may not reflect current demand.
