PlayStation creator RealRadec says he regained access to his account after it was taken over, and acknowledged that his public profile helped the case move quickly. The method used to compromise the account has not been established in the reporting, and the case does not show that other locked-out players will receive the same response.
What RealRadec said happened
In a report updated October 6, 2026, Push Square said RealRadec reported that his PlayStation account had been taken over and later posted that he had recovered it. He thanked people who helped and recognized that his reach may have affected the speed of the response.

As reproduced by Push Square, Radec wrote: “It would be foolish of me not to acknowledge that this was dealt with as quickly as possible because of the position I’m in. Not many people have that reach, and I am fully aware of that.” He also said that people should not lose access to their games, DLC, save data, or Trophies, and concluded: “This needs to change.”

The reviewed report does not establish how Radec’s account was compromised. It does not verify that the incident involved phishing, stolen passwords, social engineering, or a bypass of two-step verification. It also contains no incident-specific statement from Sony explaining the takeover, recovery, or any security change.

Push Square also refers to earlier concerns involving Colin Moriarty and the possibility that account and purchase information could be used to manipulate support. That is background reported by the outlet, not a verified explanation of what happened to Radec’s account.
The sources reviewed do not provide a verified count or rate for this incident or for PSN account takeovers overall. They also do not establish that every player will receive the same recovery outcome or response time.

If you can’t access your PlayStation account
PlayStation’s US account recovery guidance directs users to online account recovery or the Online Assistant. Which route applies depends partly on whether you can use your passkey or access the email address associated with the account.
- If you can use your passkey or access your account email, start with PlayStation’s online recovery process.
- If you have lost access to the email address linked to the account, use the recovery guidance to reach the appropriate support route.
- If you receive notice that your sign-in ID, online ID, or password was changed without your permission, PlayStation directs you to contact the Online Assistant.
These are PlayStation’s published support steps, not a guarantee that an account can be restored. Regional support routes may differ.

What to secure after regaining access
PlayStation’s compromised-account guidance recommends securing both the linked email account and the PlayStation sign-in method. It also advises signing out of devices, deactivating consoles, and reviewing or removing payment methods where appropriate.
- Secure the email account associated with your PlayStation account.
- Update or otherwise secure your PlayStation sign-in method.
- Sign out of devices and deactivate consoles using the options in PlayStation account settings.
- Review saved payment methods and remove them if appropriate; check for unauthorized payments and follow PlayStation’s payment guidance.
- If you cannot change the sign-in method or regain account access, contact PlayStation Support as soon as possible.
Passkeys and account recovery
PlayStation says passkeys are supported on PS5 and PS4, its website and app, and Remote Play for Mac, subject to the device and browser requirements listed in its passkey guidance. The guidance warns that some hardware security keys may have issues and suggests using a passkey synced to a mobile device instead. It does not identify a physical security key as necessary or as a solution to the method behind Radec’s incident.
Passkey access and email-based recovery are distinct routes: the device, browser, and access you still have determine which one you can use. The available reporting does not test or rank either option against the attack on Radec’s account.
