A custom desk reported by TechSpot uses an overhead camera to locate a phone, then moves a single wireless charging coil beneath it. The idea removes the need to place a phone on one fixed charging pad—but the moving coil serves one position at a time, so this is not a desk that can charge phones anywhere all at once.
How the moving charger works
In TechSpot’s September 25, 2026 report, the desk’s overhead camera detects a phone’s position and passes that location to a motorized mechanism beneath the desktop. The mechanism moves one wireless charging coil to line up under the detected device. In principle, that lets the user set a phone down across the desk without first finding a marked charging spot.

The project was inspired by Apple’s canceled AirPower concept. According to TechSpot, the creator considered covering the desktop with fixed charging coils impractical, estimating that it would take about 600. The report does not name the creator or explain how that estimate was calculated, so it is a project-specific estimate rather than a verified engineering count.
What the desk can—and cannot—charge
The moving coil can serve devices at different positions in sequence, but it cannot charge devices in separate places simultaneously. The desk also has two fixed charging coils in its corners, providing additional charging positions independent of the moving mechanism.

The moving coil reportedly has another job: when it returns to a home position, it can align with a receiver coil inside a keyboard to charge it. TechSpot does not identify the charging standard, coil module, power rating, or charging speed, so those details should not be assumed for this build.
Other reported features
- Transparent display: It activates when a phone is placed on the desk and shows an animated cat following the charging coil, along with basic information and a task tracker.
- Standing-desk reminder: After about an hour of seated time, the desk reportedly reminds the user and can raise its motorized legs to a saved standing height.
- Hydration reminder: An electromagnet on the moving assembly can pull a compatible cup toward the user. The report does not identify the cup or explain what makes it compatible.
- Focus Mode: A 25-minute timer appears beneath the phone. If the phone is picked up before the timer ends, the desk reportedly will not charge it again when it is put back down.
- Built-in computer: A Mac mini is integrated into the setup and can connect to a monitor. TechSpot does not state which generation it is.
A custom build, not a product review
TechSpot reports that HTX Studio spent about two months building the desk. The first version reportedly had slow motors and cables that could tangle; the finished version added more desk and automation functions. These are reported project details, not independently verified performance or reliability results.

The report describes a maker project rather than a desk available to buy or a tested consumer product. It does not provide a parts list, construction instructions, measured charging performance, safety testing, or enough specifications to reproduce the system. A wireless charging transmitter coil module is a plausible component category for someone exploring a similar idea, but TechSpot does not identify the module used in this desk or establish its compatibility with any particular standard.
