Trapstar Games launched it on Steam on October 8, 2026, at $5.99. Its combination of gang-themed humor, rapid gunfights, six multiplayer modes and an unexpectedly large audience has pushed it far beyond the usual low-budget-shooter niche.
Why Hood Warfare 2 went viral
The immediate spark was short gameplay video. Notebookcheck reported that a clip posted on X by Rainbow Six Siege player Bryan “Merc” Wrzek had passed 17.5 million views by October 15, 2026. The attention translated into players: the same report, citing SteamDB, said the game reached a peak of nearly 15,000 concurrent Steam players during its first week.

Those figures are snapshots rather than permanent audience measures. Steam activity and social-media view counts change continuously, but they show why a $5.99 release suddenly appeared in feeds normally dominated by major publishers. The concept is instantly legible—rival gangs fighting across a stylized Chicago—and the rough-edged presentation makes clips easy to share.

Steam describes Hood Warfare 2 as a chaotic multiplayer first-person shooter built in Unreal Engine 5. The sequel adds updated visuals and new weapon animations, while maps include downtown, suburbs, The Trenches and Chicago Mall. Players can tune weapons with sights, magazines, grips, suppressors and other attachments.

Steam’s official description says: “Rival gangs fight for control of Chicago. Pick a side, customize your weapons, and fight other players across a variety of action-packed game modes. Spin the block and take over the streets in this chaotic multiplayer FPS.”
The gang framing is fictional. The Steam page also carries Trapstar Games’ disclaimer: “Hood Warfare nor Trapstargames promotes nor condones any form of real life gang violence.”

Turf War
Teams capture and hold territory. Holding more turf earns points, making map control more important than simply chasing eliminations.

What players like—and what they dislike
When the Steam page was accessed on October 15, 2026, it showed 79% positive English reviews from 1,974 reviews. The total can move as new reviews arrive, so treat that percentage and count as a dated snapshot.
- Praised: fast gunplay, gangster humor and a nostalgic feel for players who enjoyed older Call of Duty or Counter-Strike-style shooters.
- Reported problems: complaints about aimbot cheaters, an unfavorable spawn system and a very short time-to-kill, according to Notebookcheck’s early coverage.
The review ratio suggests many buyers are enjoying the inexpensive, high-speed formula, but it does not establish that cheating or matchmaking issues have been solved. No independent testing has established performance or frame-rate targets.

If your system is below the minimum graphics, memory or processor specification, the store listing does not say how far performance will fall. Check your exact hardware against the table rather than assuming that a recent integrated-graphics laptop qualifies.
Is it worth $5.99?
For someone seeking a cheap online shooter with a deliberately rowdy gang theme, the price lowers the risk: there are six modes, weapon attachments, bot-filled matches and controller support. The early 79% English-review score is a positive signal, and the first-week player spike indicates that finding a populated match was possible during the launch window.
The trade-off is polish and competitive reliability. Early reports specifically mention aimbot cheating, questionable spawns and an extremely short time-to-kill. Those issues can matter more than the purchase price if you want carefully balanced matchmaking or a robust anti-cheat environment. The game is a better fit for casual sessions, friends and players who enjoy chaotic throwback shooters than for someone demanding tournament-grade infrastructure.

The 17.5-million-view clip proves that the premise and footage resonated on social media; it does not prove long-term retention, a stable player population or that reported technical complaints have been fixed. Likewise, nearly 15,000 concurrent players was a first-week peak, not an average or current count. Check Steam’s live player activity and current review total before buying if an active matchmaking pool is your deciding factor.
The Bottom Line
Hood Warfare 2 is going viral because a $5.99, fast and intentionally rough multiplayer FPS produced highly shareable clips and a surprisingly strong launch. Its six modes and low price make it easy to try, while early cheating, spawn and time-to-kill complaints are the reasons to temper expectations.
