Lenovo’s March 2026 datasheet describes Intel Core Ultra Series 2 H-series processors and an integrated NPU rated up to 13 TOPS. The PSREF page was last modified September 5, 2025, and lists peak AI figures of up to 294 TOPS for the RTX PRO 500 and up to 440 TOPS for the RTX PRO 1000. These are manufacturer specifications, not measured application performance, rendering speed, or a prediction of which AI models will fit or run well.

Can it run AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, or other CAD software?
Lenovo says the P16s Gen 4 is ISV-certified and names AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, and ANSYS as examples. That supports its positioning as a professional workstation, but certification and performance should be checked for the specific application version and hardware configuration. Lenovo’s PSREF points to its workstation ISV certifications list; verify the exact software and system before relying on certification for a work-critical setup.
For light 2D drafting, general business work, or modest projects, integrated graphics may be sufficient if the software vendor’s requirements allow it. For 3D viewports, larger assemblies, GPU-accelerated rendering, or other graphics-heavy tasks, prioritize a discrete GPU and adequate memory. The available evidence does not establish a project-size threshold or a single GPU that is sufficient for every CAD workflow.

TechRadar’s August 31, 2026 review describes the RTX PRO 500 as adequate for many 3D renderings and mobile work, while cautioning that it is not a high-power option for heavy rendering or video editing. That is the reviewer’s qualitative assessment, not a controlled benchmark or guarantee for every project. No reproducible CAD benchmark tied to a specified P16s Gen 4 Intel configuration and project is established here, so there are no defensible universal frame-rate or render-time claims.

Do not choose between these options by TOPS alone. CAD performance depends on the application, its graphics support, project complexity, CPU, memory, and GPU. Local AI suitability additionally depends on the model, framework, and memory needs; the available product specifications do not establish specific model compatibility or inference speed.

Can the P16s Gen 4 run AI locally?
It is important to distinguish AI-assisted features in everyday applications, cloud-hosted AI, local inference, and model development. Cloud services do most of their processing remotely, so a discrete GPU is not automatically required on the laptop. Local inference and development place different demands on GPU capability and available memory, and should be matched to the intended software and model.
Lenovo markets the system as an AI-ready workstation and publishes NPU and GPU peak TOPS figures. TechRadar’s review reports a positive qualitative experience running multiple AI business workflows on its review system, but that experience does not establish local-model throughput, memory limits, or performance for every configuration. Treat the TOPS figures as peak manufacturer ratings, not as a substitute for a workload-specific benchmark.

How much memory and which display should you choose?
Choose memory for the software and project size you expect to use, and confirm whether the specific configuration uses CSoDIMM or SODIMM modules before purchasing. Lenovo lists a maximum of 96GB with two 48GB CSoDIMMs and up to 64GB with two 32GB SODIMMs; those are configuration ceilings, not a promise that every SKU can be upgraded to either maximum.

Display options also vary across the product family. Check the exact panel offered with the SKU you are considering for your preferred resolution, brightness, color characteristics, and work environment; the cited product information does not establish that every display option is suited to color-critical work. Lenovo’s PSREF lists Thunderbolt 4 USB-C and HDMI outputs and up to four independent displays including the internal panel. For a desk setup, verify dock compatibility for the precise configuration rather than assuming any dock will support the intended display arrangement.

A practical configuration checklist
- Identify the workload. Separate 2D drafting, 3D assemblies, GPU rendering, cloud AI, local inference, and model development; they do not impose the same requirements.
- Check software requirements and certification. Confirm the application version, GPU requirements, and any relevant ISV certification for the exact system configuration.
- Compare the GPU options. Decide whether integrated graphics meet the application’s needs or whether the RTX PRO 500 or RTX PRO 1000 is more appropriate for the intended workload.
- Verify memory and storage on the actual SKU. Check installed capacity, module type, upgrade path, and SSD size; family maximums may not describe the retail unit.
- Confirm the display and connections. Match the panel and external-monitor setup to your work, and check Lenovo’s compatibility information for any dock.
- Seek workload-specific evidence for demanding work. If a deadline or large project depends on performance, look for tests using the same application, project type, and comparable configuration rather than relying on peak TOPS or a general review.
