Short answer: Do not treat these prices as live August 2026 offers without checking the exact retailer listing. The $53 HP Chromebook is unidentified, the $849 MacBook reference was a historical 13-inch M3/512GB configuration, the LG C4 discount depended on screen size and a gift card, and the $28 Echo Dot promotion was for the Kids edition in a December 2024 deal report.
Prices, sellers and inventory can change or disappear. Use the model and condition checks below before buying; a coupon, membership, gift card or credit-card application can materially change the amount you pay.

| $850 M3 MacBook Air | Tom’s Guide reported a 13-inch, 512GB M3 Air at $849, with 16GB memory and a 13.6-inch display, in historical deal coverage. Source | Potentially good only if that configuration is still available and a newer Air is not similarly priced. |
| 20% off LG C4 OLED | Historical holiday coverage listed a 65-inch model at $1,499.99 plus a $100 Best Buy gift card and a 77-inch model at $2,199.99 plus a $100 gift card. Source | Compare cash price, size and gift-card value separately. |
| $28 Echo Dot | The cited December 2024 promotion was for an Echo Dot Kids edition, not necessarily the standard model. Source | Buy only after confirming generation, edition and requirements. |
These products serve different needs, so there is no meaningful single “best deal.” Choose by use case rather than headline percentage.

A low-end Chromebook can handle web browsing, Google Docs, school portals, streaming and basic video calls. It is a poor choice for Windows or macOS software, demanding games, video editing, large local files or heavy multitasking. Models with 4GB RAM and 32GB or 64GB storage can feel constrained, and a near-term Auto Update Expiration date can erase the apparent savings. ChromeOS, Android and Linux support also varies by model.
Buy only if: the listing identifies a supported model, has acceptable return protection and meets your browser-first needs. Otherwise, a newer Chromebook with a longer support period is safer.

$850 M3 MacBook Air: verify the configuration
The documented $849 price applied to a 13-inch M3 MacBook Air with 512GB storage; the coverage described 16GB unified memory, a 13.6-inch display and more than 15 hours of battery life in its testing context. Real-world battery life varies. Tom’s Guide deal report
At checkout, confirm:
- 13-inch versus 15-inch chassis and the M3 CPU/GPU configuration
- 16GB versus 8GB memory and 512GB versus 256GB SSD
- New, renewed or used condition, color and Apple warranty eligibility
- Amazon seller, fulfillment method, return policy and whether a coupon is required
A 512GB/16GB M3 model can be attractive for general productivity, macOS software, long battery life and Apple-device integration. Compare its price with the current-generation base MacBook Air before committing; an older chip is less compelling when the newer model is close in price. Check compatibility for specialized plug-ins, games, peripherals and external-display needs, and remember that a Chromebook is better value for simple browser work.

C4 OLED is compelling for dark-room movies, high-contrast HDR and console gaming. HDMI 2.1 ports and high-refresh-rate support suit current consoles, but confirm soundbar compatibility and wall-mount requirements. OLED is less ideal in an extremely bright room and requires accepting image-retention risk with static desktops, news tickers or persistent game HUDs. A newer OLED or bright mini-LED set may be preferable when the price gap is small. $28 Echo Dot: identify the edition and terms
The cited $28 offer was an Echo Dot Kids promotion reported in December 2024 at 53% off. It does not establish a current $28 price for a standard Echo Dot. Source
Confirm standard versus Kids edition, generation, color, new versus renewed condition, included case or subscription, Prime or account requirements and coupon application. Kids models can include parental controls, a child-focused warranty or bundled services that standard models do not.
A surfaced Home Depot listing identified a fourth-generation Echo Dot (model B07XJ8C8F5) at $49.99, with a separate $25 credit-card offer for qualifying new-card customers—an effective $24.99 only for eligible applicants, not a normal $28 sale. The listing stated a three-unit order limit and 90-day returns. Listing
Echo Dot suits Alexa routines, timers, music and basic smart-home control. It requires an Amazon account and cloud services; consider privacy, accidental purchases and limited speaker volume. Skip it if you do not want an always-connected assistant or your devices are outside the Alexa ecosystem.

Deal-check checklist
- Open the retailer’s exact product page, not a search-result snippet.
- Record the product number, configuration, condition, seller and fulfillment method.
- Separate list price, sale price, coupon savings, gift-card value and financing or card incentives.
- Check shipping, tax treatment, stock status, warranty and return window.
- Recheck the price after selecting size, color, storage, seller and delivery location.
- Do not buy an expired or unclear listing merely because an old article still appears in search results.
The Bottom Line
These headlines describe historical or insufficiently specified offers, not verified universal prices for August 18, 2026. The MacBook Air reference is the strongest documented value, but only in its 13-inch/16GB/512GB configuration and only if a newer Air is not close in price. Treat the Chromebook, LG C4 and Echo Dot claims as buy-after-verification opportunities rather than guaranteed bargains.
