Thermal Grizzly TG Metal Polish & Restore is the most specifically documented option for copper PC hardware when the concern is gallium residue. Its manufacturer says it is optimized for gallium cleanup and suitable for copper in PC hardware and technical applications. Flitz Paste Metal Polish and Autosol Metal Polish are documented alternatives for ordinary copper tarnish and oxidation, but their cited product information does not establish use on gallium residue or sensitive CPU dies. No independent head-to-head test supports ranking these products by performance.
How the three copper polishes compare
| Product | Documented copper use | PC hardware or gallium guidance | Important limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thermal Grizzly TG Metal Polish & Restore (TG-MPR-01) | Manufacturer says it is suitable for copper, brass, chrome, and nickel in PC hardware and technical applications; it also describes polishing tarnished areas and removing oxidation residue and contaminants. Thermal Grizzly product information | Thermal Grizzly says the paste is optimized for gallium residue and provides guidance for silicon CPU and GPU dies. Product instructions and manufacturer announcement | Manufacturer claims, not an independent comparison. Do not use on painted or powder-coated surfaces; clean all residue before applying liquid metal. |
| Flitz Paste Metal Polish | Flitz lists copper and tarnish, oxidation, and discoloration removal among its uses. Flitz product information | The cited product information does not establish gallium-residue removal or use on sensitive PC components. | Flitz advises against use on electroplated or patina finishes. Its directions specify gentle rubbing with a soft cloth. |
| Autosol Metal Polish, 75 ml | Autosol lists copper and removal of oxidation, tarnish, stains, and discoloration. Autosol product information | The cited product information does not establish gallium-residue removal or suitability for CPU dies and other sensitive PC surfaces. | Directions call for a small amount on a soft cloth, followed by rubbing and buffing. |
The differences above reflect what the manufacturers document, not measured differences in abrasiveness, scratch removal, finish quality, or cleaning efficiency. There is no controlled comparison here using the same copper surface and residue.

What Thermal Grizzly says TG Metal Polish does
Thermal Grizzly describes TG Metal Polish & Restore as a polishing paste optimized for removing gallium residue. The company says its surfactant technology binds gallium to keep it from re-adhering during cleaning, and that the paste also removes oxidation residue and contaminants, polishes matte or tarnished areas, and provides temporary oxidation protection. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. Its announcement is dated October 1, 2026: Thermal Grizzly’s announcement.

Thermal Grizzly says the larger cloths can be used by hand or cut to size. The manufacturer recommends hand application with the included pen.
#1 Best Overall
- GREAT PROTECTION - Thermal Grizzly TG Shield provides excellent protection against short circuits for components
- EASY APPLICATION - The integrated brush makes the application process simple and precise
- HIGH VERSATILITY - It can withstand temperatures ranging from -20°C up to 110°C, making it suitable for a wide range of applications
Using polish on a copper PC component
Check the surface before applying anything
- Confirm that the surface is copper and identify any coating or finish. TG Metal Polish must not be used on painted or powder-coated surfaces. Flitz advises against electroplated or patina finishes.
- For exposed silicon, such as a CPU die or GPU chip, Thermal Grizzly advises careful handling and avoiding excessive pressure. The cited Flitz and Autosol information does not establish suitability for exposed silicon.
Apply and clean up carefully
- For TG Metal Polish, use the included polishing pen by hand as Thermal Grizzly recommends. For Flitz or Autosol on suitable copper surfaces, follow the manufacturers’ soft-cloth directions and use gentle pressure.
- If using a mechanical or electric polishing aid with TG Metal Polish, keep friction-generated heat at or below 60 °C, as specified by Thermal Grizzly. The company also warns that excessive axial movement can cause the paste to lose adhesion to a polishing attachment.
- After polishing a surface that will receive liquid metal, clean until no polish residue remains. Thermal Grizzly gives its cleaning wipes or isopropyl alcohol as examples. Do not treat polishing as the final cleaning step before applying liquid metal.
Thermal Grizzly says opened paste may be stored for up to three years if protected from direct sunlight. This is a storage instruction, not a performance or shelf-life comparison.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which alternative makes sense?
- Choose TG Metal Polish & Restore when: you are working on copper PC hardware and gallium residue is the specific problem. It is the only one of these products whose manufacturer explicitly documents both that use and PC-hardware guidance.
- Consider Flitz or Autosol when: the job is ordinary copper tarnish or oxidation on a surface their manufacturers say is compatible, and you do not need documented gallium-residue or CPU-die guidance. Respect Flitz’s finish exclusions.
This is a fit-to-documented-use distinction, not proof that TG cleans better, is less abrasive, or is safer in every situation. The available manufacturer information does not establish a best-performing polish across the same test conditions.
