Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

The catch is that the anniversary design—not any announced performance or feature upgrade—is what you are paying extra for. Nintendo has announced a 29 October 2026 launch; as of 2 October, that date is still ahead.
What makes this Switch 2 look different?
The anniversary edition keeps the Switch 2’s familiar form and gives it a coordinated Zelda treatment. Gizmodo’s visual examination describes dark green Joy-Con 2 controllers with pixel-art details of Zelda and Link, gold-colored sticks, and a black-and-gold dock bearing Triforce imagery. Nintendo Life also notes the green-and-black look and Triforce detailing; its description of the matching Pro Controller calls out a gold Triforce motif and a Hylian family crest.

That combination is the appeal: it reads as a Zelda design across the console and accessories, rather than a standard system with a small logo added. There is an important limit to the visual report, though. Gizmodo saw the showcase hardware behind Plexiglas, so the account supports a description of its appearance—not claims about hands-on feel, extended play, or performance.
What does the anniversary edition cost compared with the standard Switch 2?
Gizmodo reports US MSRPs of $519.99 for the Zelda anniversary console and $499.99 for the standard Switch 2, a $20 difference. Nintendo Life’s 2026 launch coverage reports the same anniversary hardware prices. These are reported US list prices, not confirmation of current retailer offers or pricing in other regions.

- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
| Product | Reported US MSRP | What the price reflects |
|---|---|---|
| Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console | $519.99 (Gizmodo, 2026; also reported by Nintendo Life, 2026) | Anniversary design; no separate performance upgrade is established by the cited reporting. |
| Standard Switch 2 console | $499.99 (Gizmodo, 2026) | Standard design. |
| Zelda anniversary Pro Controller | $99.99 (Gizmodo, 2026; also reported by Nintendo Life, 2026) | Sold separately from the console. |
| Zelda anniversary Pro Controller with display stand | $109.99 (Gizmodo, 2026) | Reported price for the stand bundle. |
The practical comparison is simple: if you would buy a Switch 2 either way and prefer the standard look, the cited US prices make it $20 cheaper. The anniversary console’s case is its Zelda styling. The available reporting does not establish that it plays games differently or adds functionality.
Are the matching controller and carrying case included?
No. Nintendo’s 9 September 2026 announcement names the anniversary console, Pro Controller and carrying case with screen protector as separate products scheduled for 29 October. Its wording says fans can get the console “plus anniversary editions” of the controller and case; it does not say either accessory comes in the console package. The reported $99.99 Pro Controller price—or $109.99 with a stand—is additional to the console price.
Rank #2
- The next evolution of the Nintendo Switch system
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Supports up to 4K resolution** when using a compatible game and TV connected via the included Nintendo Switch 2 dock
- Nintendo Switch 2 plays compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games.***
That distinction matters when judging the total appeal. The console alone is the relevant choice if you want the themed hardware without adding accessories. The controller makes sense as a separate purchase if its design is worth the extra cost to you; the carrying case is likewise a separate themed accessory, not part of the console’s reported bundle.

Quick Recap
Who should want it?
- It is an appealing choice if the green, gold and Triforce design is the reason you would pay more than the standard console’s reported US MSRP.
- The standard Switch 2 is the more direct fit if you care about the console but not the anniversary look; the cited reporting establishes no gameplay or performance advantage for the special edition.
- Treat the accessories as separate decisions. The controller and carrying case are distinct anniversary products, not confirmed inclusions with the console.
