Blizzard cut the bonus experience on dungeon quests by 50% in the October 1, 2026, WoW: Forever beta update—not the entire quest reward. In PC Gamer’s Wailing Caverns example, the adjusted Deviate Hides turn-in was still reported to grant 3,100 XP.
Did Blizzard cut dungeon quest XP in half?
No. Blizzard’s October 1 beta notes say, “Dungeon quests now reward 50% less extra experience beyond normal quest values.” The reduction applies to the XP added above a quest’s normal value, so the normal reward remains part of the total.

Blizzard also said the change followed ongoing discussions about leveling speed and was included “with this release.” That wording describes a beta adjustment, not a finalized rule for the live game.

Harvey Randall’s PC Gamer report uses the Wailing Caverns quest Deviate Hides to illustrate the difference between cutting the bonus and cutting the whole reward. The reported values are:
#1 Best Overall
| Stage | XP | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| Classic reward | 1,600 XP | The quest’s stated Classic value, according to PC Gamer. |
| Before the beta adjustment | About 4,650 XP | PC Gamer’s reported pre-change beta reward, including about 3,050 XP above the Classic value. |
| After the adjustment | 3,100 XP | The turn-in PC Gamer’s writer reported receiving after the change. |
Halving the reported extra 3,050 XP leaves about 1,525 bonus XP. Add the 1,600 XP normal value and the estimate is about 3,125 XP. The reported turn-in was roughly 25 XP lower; PC Gamer suggested rounding could account for the difference.
Are dungeon quests still worth doing?
The example shows that a dungeon quest can retain a substantial reward after the bonus is reduced. It supports considering a quest when you are already running that dungeon, but it does not establish the best leveling route for every character or prove that all dungeon quests pay out equally.

PC Gamer interprets the change as a way to make dungeon runs worthwhile for completing their quests once or twice, while encouraging players to continue leveling in the open world afterward. That is the publication’s reading of the design, rather than a separate promise in Blizzard’s notes.
What is the beta status of the change?
The adjustment appears in Blizzard’s “WoW Forever Beta Development Notes – Updated October 1.” The same update raised the level cap to 30 and added Excavation Site: Wetlands, listed for levels 26–31. These details place the XP change in that beta build; they do not establish a final-game formula. Blizzard described leveling-speed discussions as ongoing, and PC Gamer cautioned that beta values can change.
