The Worse You Draw, the Funnier It Gets: Play Gartic Phone with Friends Anywhere

To play Gartic Phone with friends, open the official browser game or use its mobile app, create or join a room, and share the invitation. Players take turns writing a sentence, drawing what they receive, and describing a drawing; at the end, the group reviews how each chain changed. Drawing skill is no entry requirement—the fun comes from seeing how a message mutates as it passes between people.

How do you play Gartic Phone with friends?

Gartic Phone calls itself “THE TELEPHONE GAME.” Its official instructions lay out a round as a chain of writing, drawing, and describing, followed by a group viewing of the results. The mobile listings also describe alternating between drawing and guessing, then reviewing the round’s albums.

  1. Write: Each player starts with a quirky sentence.
  2. Draw: Players receive a sentence and draw their interpretation.
  3. Describe: The next player sees a drawing and writes what they think it depicts.
  4. Review: Follow the prompts and drawings through the completed chain to see where the original idea ended up.

For the basic game, a drawing tool on the screen is enough; the official site provides a browser entry point, and the app listing describes in-app drawing tools. The sources do not identify a physical edition or require a particular accessory.

How do you invite friends to Gartic Phone?

Open the official Gartic Phone site to start in a browser. The Google Play listing says players can create a room and invite friends using a link or QR code. Apple’s listing also describes room-based play with friends. Follow the room’s available invite options and send the link or QR code to the people joining. Room options may vary by version; the listings do not establish that every feature works identically across browser, Android, Windows, and iPhone.

Can you play Gartic Phone on your phone?

Yes. The Google Play listing identifies availability for Android and Windows, and the Apple App Store listing is for iPhone. The official website is another way to enter the game through a browser. The available descriptions do not provide a verified feature-by-feature comparison across these versions.

Choose based on the device you already have, whether you prefer a browser or installed app, and how comfortable it is to draw on that screen. Google Play describes tools including a pencil, eraser, shapes, fill bucket, eyedropper, adjustable colors and stroke settings, zoom, pan, undo, and redo. It also describes saving and sharing albums as animated GIFs and replaying drawing strokes; these are storefront descriptions and may change as the app is updated.

Do you need voice chat to play?

No. Voice chat is separate from the game itself. Gartic Phone’s official “How to Play” instructions recommend it: “Invite your friends to a voice call (e.g.: Discord, Zoom)”—but the game’s core round is the written and drawn exchange. Use a call if hearing reactions and talking through the reveal will make the session more fun; skip it if your group prefers to play without one.

How many people can play in a room?

The official lobby view cited here displayed 14 slots, but that is one view of one lobby—not a published universal player limit. The official materials do not establish a general room-capacity guarantee across platforms or settings, so check the room you create rather than assuming every version supports the same number.
