Germany’s GICON high-altitude wind turbine in Schipkau, Brandenburg, has reached a total height of 365 metres (about 1,198 feet), including the rotor tip. Its hub sits 300 metres above the ground. That makes it the world’s tallest wind-energy installation by overall height, according to SPRIND. The milestone is structural, not proof that the turbine is already generating power: commissioning was planned for November 2026.
Where is the world’s tallest wind turbine?
The GICON high-altitude wind tower stands in Schipkau, in Brandenburg’s Lausitz region. SPRIND reported the project’s final height on September 29, 2026: 365 metres from ground to rotor tip, with a hub height of 300 metres. The hub is the point where the blades meet the turbine nacelle; it is lower than the blade tip that defines the installation’s total height.

That measurement category matters. A separate project in Sengenthal, Bavaria, is described by its developers as the tallest serially produced onshore wind turbine, at 285 metres overall and a 199-metre hub height. It does not displace Schipkau’s overall-height record: the two claims refer to different categories.
| Project | Location | Total height | Hub height | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GICON high-altitude wind tower | Schipkau, Brandenburg | 365 m, including rotor tip | 300 m | World’s tallest wind-energy installation by overall height, according to SPRIND, September 29, 2026 |
| Max Bögl/Vestas project | Sengenthal, Bavaria | 285 m | 199 m | Tallest serially produced onshore turbine, according to Max Bögl, September 8, 2026 |
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the 365-metre turbine already producing electricity?
The available project update says commissioning was planned for November 2026; it does not establish that commissioning was completed or that the turbine is generating electricity.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- Realistic Wind Turbine Model: This wind turbine model toy mimics a real wind turbine to scale, and the most interesting thing is that its blades can also turn.
- 21.65inch Large Size Model: Compared to other ordinary wind turbine models, this wind turbine model has a large size, which can be installed up to 55cm/ 21.65inch.
- Wind-up Wind Turbine: This windmill toy adopts wind-up design that enables the blades turn automatically after it gets winded up. To wind it up, we just need to turn its blades clockwise for several rounds.
- Learn While Playing: This model of a wind turbine is not only a toy, but also a scientific and educational tool. It can guide children to understand the role of wind and inertia more intuitively, and cultivate children's interest in science.
- Suitable for Multiple Occasions: Kids can play with this windmill toy on their own or DIY transform it in the company of their parents. Teachers can also use it as an improvised teaching tool in the classroom.
