The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launched on 29 September 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. It updates combat, traversal, progression, interface, and rendering, and includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Eligible existing owners can upgrade free within the applicable platform ecosystem, but the rules differ by platform. The visual changes are specific; whether they look marginal or dramatic is a matter of comparison and taste, not an officially measured result.
What changed in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered?
CD PROJEKT RED describes a broad update rather than a graphics-only refresh. The changes cover rendering and visual effects, combat and animation, movement, the skill system, customization, photo mode, interface, and mod support. The official feature list does not provide a controlled before-and-after benchmark, so it establishes what changed, not how much better every platform performs or looks.

Visual and rendering updates
The developer lists a revised shading model, updated textures and models, changes to foliage lighting and shading, updated Sign effects, tone mapping, reflections and shadows, HDR calibration, and motion blur. The rendering changes also include native DirectX 12 rendering with multithreading, global ambient occlusion (GTAO), and ray-traced local shadows. CD PROJEKT RED’s press center separately calls out path tracing on PC and PS5 Pro support.
These features do not mean every platform has identical graphics options. The announcement identifies PC path tracing, while the PlayStation listing and press-center material identify PS5 Pro support; consult the store and current system requirements for details relevant to your hardware. CD PROJEKT RED says PC system requirements changed with Remastered, so check the current requirements before installing or upgrading.

Combat, movement, and progression
Official descriptions list revised combat and animations, new finishers, changes to enemy behavior, traversal refinements, a closer adaptive combat camera, and a redesigned skill system. Xbox Wire quotes CD PROJEKT RED describing the combat as feeling “more precise and smooth than ever before.” That is the developer’s promotional characterization, not an independently measured result.
The skill overhaul also changes what happens to an existing character: saves remain compatible, but skills reset so players can allocate them again under the redesigned system. The update adds transmogrification for appearance customization, expands photo mode, and supports cross-platform mods according to the official feature materials.
How substantial is the visual upgrade?
“Marginally better visuals” is not an official measurement. CD PROJEKT RED lists numerous rendering and asset changes, but does not quantify their visual impact or claim that players will perceive them as marginal. In its October 2026 review, GamesRadar+ judged the lighting and environments to be the most noticeable parts of the graphical overhaul and considered the gameplay changes more significant overall. That is one reviewer’s assessment; it is not a universal or platform-by-platform comparison.

The release is available for PC through Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net; PlayStation 5; Xbox Series X|S; and Nintendo Switch 2. A free upgrade is available to qualifying previous owners, but entitlement depends on the original platform, the new platform, and—in some cases—region. Do not assume that owning any version automatically grants the same upgrade everywhere.

| Platform or ownership | What the official terms say |
|---|---|
| PC | Available on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net. CD PROJEKT RED says qualifying prior owners can upgrade free within the same platform ecosystem; check the relevant store account and current system requirements. |
| PlayStation | The US PlayStation page describes the PS5 upgrade as free for existing PS5 owners and expressly excludes the PS4 version. The PS4 version alone does not qualify under that offer. |
| Xbox | Xbox Wire says Xbox Series X|S owners receive a free upgrade and describes Xbox Play Anywhere. Disc owners can claim the expansions through the Store; consult Xbox’s platform terms for the specific Xbox One disc or digital entitlement. |
| Nintendo | CD PROJEKT RED says original Switch owners can claim the upgrade on Switch 2, subject to a Russia/Belarus exception stated in its FAQ. |
Before buying, verify the entitlement in the store for the account and platform you plan to use. The official materials describe physical and digital prior ownership as eligible in the applicable ecosystem, but platform-specific conditions matter—particularly for PS4-to-PS5 and Switch-to-Switch 2.

Both major expansions are included
Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are included with Remastered. Official materials say owners of only the base game also receive the expansions as part of the upgrade where supported. Xbox Wire notes that Xbox disc owners can claim the expansions through the Store.
Saves and achievements remain compatible; skills reset
CD PROJEKT RED’s support FAQ says existing saves and achievements are compatible with Remastered. Skills are the exception to continuity: the skill-system overhaul resets them, so plan to rebuild your character after loading a save.
Quick Recap
What to check before installing or buying
- Confirm platform entitlement: Check the store for the platform where you will play; eligibility does not translate uniformly between console generations or ecosystems.
- Check PC requirements: The developer says requirements changed. PC path tracing is specifically identified in the press-center materials; do not assume your current settings or hardware will support every feature.
- Plan for the skill reset: Your save can carry over, but you will need to reassign skills under the revised system.
- Compare on your own platform: The cited materials establish feature changes, not controlled performance or image-quality results across platforms. Visual impact and any performance trade-off depend on platform and settings.
