What is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered?
Remastered is CD PROJEKT RED’s modernization of the original role-playing game and its two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The studio says the Remastered edition replaces the Complete Edition on supported platforms and includes both expansions as standard—even for players whose previous purchase was only the base game. See the September 29, 2026 launch announcement for the studio’s platform and edition details.

How to get the free upgrade
CD PROJEKT RED says prior purchasers—whether their copy was physical or digital—can upgrade for free within the same platform ecosystem. The offer is not a cross-platform license: owning one platform’s copy does not, by itself, grant the game on another platform.

What happens to saves, achievements, and skills?
The official FAQ says existing saves are compatible, and previously earned achievements for the base game, Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine carry over. The skill-system overhaul resets skills, so returning players should expect to reassign their character’s abilities after loading into Remastered. Save compatibility does not mean every build choice remains intact.
Why did CD PROJEKT RED make Remastered?
In a September 29, 2026 blog post, CD PROJEKT RED says the work grew out of development on a new expansion, Songs of the Past. The team saw opportunities to upgrade elements of the base game, and incremental improvements developed into the idea for a full modernization. That is the studio’s account of its motivation, rather than a statement from a named individual. Read the studio’s account of the Remastered project.
The company announced Songs of the Past in May 2026 as a third expansion planned for 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. That is an announced release window, not a guaranteed final date. In the same announcement, CD PROJEKT RED reported that The Witcher 3 had sold more than 60 million copies since 2015, earned more than 250 Game of the Year awards, and received 1,000 industry awards. Those totals are publisher-reported figures. See the May 27, 2026 corporate announcement.
