CD PROJEKT RED lists PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support and uncapped frame rates for PS5 Pro. It says PSSR is intended to deliver higher visual fidelity without sacrificing performance. Those are the publisher’s feature claims, not independently verified results for every scene or display.

The publisher also lists an improved shading model; updated textures and models based on assets from the Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project; improved grass and foliage lighting and shading; updated tone mapping; a Ground Truth Ambient Occlusion option; ray-traced local shadows; revised screen-space reflections and shadows; HDR calibration changes; and improved terrain and material rendering. Which graphics mode should you choose?
CD PROJEKT RED describes two modes for PS5 Pro. The frame rates below are the publisher’s targets, not guaranteed or independently measured outcomes.

If lighting treatment is your priority, the publisher positions Ray Tracing Mode around enhanced lighting. If higher resolution is the priority, it positions Performance Mode accordingly. The “up to 90 FPS” statement is specifically tied to a VRR-capable display; it is not a promise that every setup will reach that figure. Neither a PS5 Pro nor a VRR display is required simply to play the game.

On 1 October 2026, CD PROJEKT RED released Patch 5.00b with what it called “various lighting adjustments,” including fixes for some interiors that appeared too dark. That confirms the publisher made lighting changes, but it does not establish that all brightness or saturation complaints were resolved, or that the visuals have reached a consensus. The same notice mentions a DLSS issue on Xbox Play Anywhere PC; that PC issue should not be confused with PS5 behavior. See the Patch 5.00b notice for the publisher’s update details.

Do existing owners get the remaster for free?
CD PROJEKT RED says owners of the original game can upgrade for free within the same platform ecosystem, including owners of physical and digital copies. The publisher also says existing base-game owners receive the two original expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, which are included in the remastered base game. Check the relevant platform store for current regional entitlement and upgrade instructions before purchasing; platform ecosystems do not necessarily transfer ownership between one another.
