What the “Geralt upgrade” actually means
The announcement is about a remastered version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, not a new Geralt character, standalone character pack, or separate Geralt-specific upgrade. CD PROJEKT RED announced the edition on August 25, 2026, and said it would launch on September 29. Its release notice confirmed it was available that day. Read the announcement and release notice.

Is The Witcher 3 Remastered free if you already own the game?
According to CD PROJEKT RED’s announcement, existing owners on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S are eligible for a free Remastered upgrade. Check the relevant storefront or platform account for the actual update or entitlement; storefront-specific rules can vary. The announcement separately says the game is available for pre-purchase on Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2, and that Nintendo Switch owners can claim Remastered on Switch 2 when it releases. What changes in the Remastered edition?
The publisher describes changes to visuals and gameplay. These are CD PROJEKT RED’s feature descriptions, not independent performance measurements or a guarantee of a particular frame rate or resolution.

Visual updates

Are Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine included?
Yes. CD PROJEKT RED says both expansions are included in Remastered and that current owners of the base game gain them for free. Its release notice names GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 for the expansions. Does Remastered come to PS4 or Xbox One?
The official FAQ says the game itself remains unchanged on previous-generation consoles. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One do not receive the Remastered edition; the change specified for those consoles is free access to Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine for base-game owners. What version is current now?
The release notice establishes that Remastered was available on September 29, 2026. CD PROJEKT RED’s news listing also shows Patch 5.01, dated October 8, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. That patch listing is later than launch; check the official news page for current notices.
