The best changes depend on what feels unclear: enable Quick Sign Casting for faster Signs, test the new exploration and dynamic combat cameras, hide exploration HUD elements if you can navigate without them, switch the map to All when you need every marker, tune horseback input sensitivity, and learn Quick Disengage for safer retreats. The exact labels and availability depend on whether you are playing the 2026 Remastered version, the earlier Next-Gen release, PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch or Switch 2.
Use these as starting points rather than a universal preset. CD PROJEKT RED documents what each option does, but it does not establish one camera distance, sensitivity value or HUD layout that suits every player.

Check your edition and platform first
CD PROJEKT RED’s September 28, 2026 Remastered notes describe new camera, horse-control and disengagement options, while the 2022 Next-Gen notes document Quick Sign Casting, dynamic exploration HUD controls, map-filter behavior and an earlier alternative camera. PC, console and Switch versions do not expose identical settings. For example, some graphics controls are PC-only, and Switch 2 has its own input capabilities. Open your game’s current Settings or Options menus and use the labels shown there instead of assuming that every item in this guide will appear.

Start with a quick settings pass
- Open Options or Settings from the pause menu.
- In Gameplay, enable Quick Sign Casting if you want Signs without opening the radial menu.
- Compare the exploration and combat camera choices in a safe area before changing several camera controls at once.
- In Video, open HUD Configuration and decide whether the minimap and objectives should disappear during exploration.
- On the world map, use the default filter for a quieter view and All when you need to inspect every available marker category.
- In Controls, adjust horse input sensitivity and note the displayed Quick Disengage instructions.
- Play for a few minutes, change one setting at a time, and keep the configuration that reduces mistakes rather than the one that sounds best on paper.
Make Signs faster with Quick Sign Casting
Quick Sign Casting lets you switch to and cast a Sign without opening the radial menu. That removes a menu interruption from a fight and can make a frequently used Sign feel more immediate. The Next-Gen announcement lists it among the alternative ways to play introduced with the update.
When it helps
Enable it if you regularly cast Signs while an enemy is moving, if pausing to open the radial menu breaks your rhythm, or if you want to keep your attention on positioning. It is especially useful when you already know which input corresponds to each Sign and can press it without looking down.
When to leave it off
The radial menu remains useful when you want a deliberate overview of every Sign, item and bomb before committing. Players who trigger the wrong Sign under pressure may prefer the extra confirmation of the radial interface. The publisher describes the feature’s function, not a guaranteed improvement for every control scheme.
How to test it safely
- Enable Quick Sign Casting in the Gameplay controls available in your edition.
- Visit a low-risk area or reload a manual save.
- Cast two different Signs while moving, then repeat the same encounter with the radial menu.
- Keep the mode that produces fewer missed inputs for your hand position and controller layout.
Choose a camera that shows the information you need
Camera settings affect how early you see an approaching enemy, how much terrain is visible while riding, and how crowded the screen feels. The Remastered release adds an exploration camera with increased field of view and a dynamic combat camera intended to improve visibility during fights. The earlier Next-Gen update also introduced an alternative camera closer to Geralt, with separate distance controls for exploration, combat and horseback play.
| Camera option | Documented behavior | Best reason to try it | Trade-off to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remastered exploration camera | Increased field of view while exploring | See more surroundings and route context while moving | A wider view can make distant objects and interface elements feel smaller |
| Remastered dynamic combat camera | Camera behavior intended to increase visibility during fights | Keep more of an encounter in view as combat develops | Movement may feel less fixed than a camera you control manually |
| Next-Gen alternative camera | Camera placed closer to the character, with adjustable distances for exploration, combat and horseback | Prefer a more immediate, over-the-shoulder perspective | A closer view can hide some surrounding space |
Set each context separately
Do not assume that one distance works for every activity. A camera that feels readable on foot may place Geralt too close to the screen during a group fight, while a horseback distance that shows the road can make nearby turns harder to judge. If your edition exposes separate sliders under Gameplay for Exploration, Combat and Horseback Camera Distance, adjust them independently.
A practical comparison routine
- Stand in an open settlement and walk a familiar route with the standard exploration view.
- Switch to the wider exploration camera and check whether landmarks and route choices are easier to read.
- Fight a small group using the dynamic or alternative combat view; watch whether enemies leaving your peripheral vision become easier to track.
- Ride through a crowded path and compare horseback distance settings.
- Change only one camera control between attempts so you can identify what caused an improvement or a new problem.
Reduce HUD clutter without losing navigation
The Next-Gen HUD controls can hide the minimap and quest objectives dynamically while you are exploring, outside combat and not using Witcher Senses. This creates a clearer view of the environment instead of keeping navigation prompts on screen at all times.

- Perfect puzzling: Puzzles slowly increase in complexity enabling seamless progression and rewarding exploration.
Hide the minimap or objectives
- Open Options → Video → HUD Configuration, the path documented in the Next-Gen notes.
- Find the separate exploration controls for hiding the minimap and hiding objectives.
- Enable only the element you can comfortably do without; you do not have to hide both.
- Return to exploration and confirm that the HUD reappears when combat starts or Witcher Senses are active.
Menu paths can differ in Remastered and on different platforms, so follow the current labels in your copy. A clean screen is not automatically better: if you rely on the minimap for roads, quest direction or undiscovered turns, leave it visible or restore it before a difficult journey. Hiding objectives also means you must remember the active quest and read the environment more carefully.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteUse map filters deliberately
The default map filter intentionally hides some icon categories, including question marks and boat icons. Those markers have not been removed from the world; they are simply excluded from the current map view. Choose the filter based on the task in front of you.
Default filter for ordinary travel
Keep the default mode when you want a readable map for following a quest, planning a short route or avoiding a wall of symbols. Fewer icons make roads, settlements and your immediate objective easier to distinguish.
“All” when searching for points of interest
Select All when you are checking an area for question marks, looking for boat locations or auditing activities you may have missed. Switch back afterward if the full set of markers makes route planning harder. The Next-Gen notes specifically identify All as the mode that restores the hidden categories.
Tune horseback input sensitivity
Remastered adds a horse-control input sensitivity slider under Settings → Controls. Use it when Roach feels too reactive to small stick or key movements, or when turning and steering feel sluggish.
Recommended Free Tools
Find a manageable value
- Open Settings → Controls and locate horse control input sensitivity.
- Move the slider a small amount rather than jumping from one extreme to the other.
- Ride through a gate, make a tight turn and stop beside a fixed landmark.
- Repeat with the next value until you can correct direction without oversteering.
No official source establishes a best numeric setting, and the appropriate value depends on the input device and your control habits. Treat the slider as a comfort adjustment, not a performance specification.

Use Quick Disengage when you need to retreat
Remastered documents a quick way to break target lock: hold the dodge button to unlock from the target, then press sprint to run away. This is useful when a fight has moved into a bad position, when you need room to heal or when continuing to circle an enemy is more dangerous than retreating.
Follow the on-screen prompts
- While locked onto an enemy, hold the button the game identifies as Dodge.
- Wait for the lock to release rather than tapping repeatedly.
- Press the displayed Sprint input and move toward open ground.
- Re-engage only after you have restored spacing and can see the encounter clearly.
Button names vary with keyboard, mouse and controller layouts. Use the prompt shown by your game rather than assuming a PlayStation, Xbox or keyboard equivalent.
Check controls and supported peripherals before troubleshooting
CD PROJEKT RED’s supported-peripherals guidance lists keyboard and mouse for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S controllers as partially supported on PC, and Xbox controllers, DualShock 4 and DualSense for the named console generations. A supported controller can be an option for someone who needs different ergonomics; it is not required to change any setting.
If an input does not respond
- Open the Controls menu and inspect the key binding or button assignment for the action.
- Check the selected control scheme and verify that the intended device is active.
- Restore defaults if bindings have become contradictory, then reassign only the actions you need.
- Test the action in a safe location before returning to a difficult quest.
The official controls troubleshooting page recommends checking bindings and the control scheme and notes that defaults can be restored. If a menu item is absent, compare your platform and version with the feature notes before treating it as a control failure.
Build a preset around the way you play
For direct, reaction-focused combat
- Enable Quick Sign Casting if radial-menu pauses interrupt your attacks.
- Try the dynamic combat camera and keep it only if enemy visibility improves for you.
- Learn Quick Disengage so a bad lock-on does not force you to trade blows.
For a clear exploration screen
- Use the Remastered exploration camera with increased field of view if the wider view helps you read terrain.
- Hide the exploration minimap, objectives or both when you can navigate by landmarks and quest context.
- Keep the default map filter during normal travel, switching to All for a deliberate search for markers.
For precise movement and riding
- Choose the camera distance that leaves enough space around Geralt or Roach for your corrections.
- Adjust horse input sensitivity in small increments.
- Keep the radial menu and visible HUD elements if removing them causes more mistakes than it removes clutter.
What to change first
If you want the shortest useful test, begin with Quick Sign Casting, the exploration and combat cameras, and the HUD controls. These alter the largest parts of moment-to-moment play. Then set the map filter for your current objective, adjust horse sensitivity only if riding feels wrong, and practice Quick Disengage before relying on it in a dangerous encounter. Because the documented options differ by edition and platform, your own in-game menu is the final authority on which recommendations apply.
