The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered arrived on September 29, 2026, and Steam soon saw a reported peak of 137,724 people playing simultaneously. That is a new reported high for the game on Steam—not a count of unique players or an all-platform audience total. CD Projekt Red says the remaster is a free upgrade for qualifying owners of the original game.
How many people are playing The Witcher 3 on Steam?
GamesRadar reported on October 5, citing SteamDB, that The Witcher 3 reached 137,724 concurrent players on Steam in 2026. “Concurrent” means those users were playing at the same time; it does not mean 137,724 new owners, total players, or people across consoles and other PC stores. SteamDB identifies the tracked game on its charts page, but the exact peak figure is attributed here to GamesRadar’s reporting rather than an independently visible SteamDB chart row.

How the new peak compares with the previous record
GamesRadar also reported the previous Steam concurrency peak as 103,329 in January 2020, around the debut of the Netflix series. Both numbers refer to simultaneous Steam players, making them comparable as Steam peaks—not as sales or measures of the game’s total audience.

The original game launched in 2015; SteamDB lists May 18, 2015 as its store release date. In October 2026, that makes it roughly eleven years old. The timing of the new peak after Remastered’s release is clear, but the reported figures do not establish that the remaster alone caused the increase.

What CD Projekt Red said about the resurgence
GamesRadar reported that Paweł Sasko, identified in its story as an associate game director on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, posted on October 4: “There is plenty of you on the path this weekend, my dears witchers 🔥 Much love and gratitude for playing our games ❤️” The remark celebrated the renewed activity; it does not provide a separate player count.

Do existing owners need to buy the game again?
No, if they qualify under CD Projekt Red’s upgrade rules. The company says owners of physical or digital versions can upgrade for free within the same platform ecosystem. That means an existing owner should check the official instructions for their platform rather than assume they need to purchase another copy. CD Projekt Red notes that regional platform rules may differ, particularly for the Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade path. Its upgrade eligibility notice gives the applicable guidance.
