Start with the screen: combat and exploration icons belong to the HUD; markers belong to the minimap or world map; skill-tree symbols identify abilities and categories; and Gwent symbols explain cards and battle rows. The wolf medallion’s glow means a point of interest is nearby. Remastered also changed quest tracking and map-marker options, but its official notes do not publish a complete picture-by-picture legend for every new glyph.
First, identify which screen shows the icon
- Gameplay HUD: Bars, prompts, and indicators around Geralt report health, combat resources, equipment, and nearby activity.
- Minimap or world map: Markers show objectives, tracked destinations, and points of interest. Some map details changed in Remastered.
- Skill tree: Symbols organize abilities and upgrades; these are not navigation or combat-status markers.
- Gwent table: Card and weather symbols describe strength, rows, and card effects.
If a shape is unclear, check its nearby label, the selected quest, or in-game help. The official manual notes that interface visibility is customizable and that not every element appears at once.

Gameplay HUD icons: official manual meanings
CD PROJEKT RED’s Xbox manual provides a stable reference for the standard HUD. It is a legacy manual, not a complete legend for every glyph added or changed in Remastered. The manual describes its display options as “highly customizable.”
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsNearby activity and navigation
- Wolf medallion: It glows when something of interest is nearby; it is a proximity signal, not a quest marker by itself.
- Minimap: Shows nearby surroundings, the direction of the tracked objective, and nearby points of interest.
- Quest panel: Displays the tracked quest and its objectives. Use the selected quest and its text to interpret a directional marker.
- Time and weather: Reports the current time of day and weather conditions.
Geralt’s health and combat resources
- Vitality: Geralt’s remaining health.
- Stamina: Decreases when Geralt sprints or uses Signs.
- Adrenaline: Points are gained and lost in combat and increase damage capability.
- Selected Sign: Indicates which Sign is currently active. The manual identifies its function but does not give a complete current Remastered shape chart for every Sign.
- Toxicity: Rises after Geralt drinks potions. A highlighted skull warns that toxicity has reached a dangerous level.
- Buffs and debuffs: The effects panel lists active effects applied to Geralt.
Enemy and danger indicators
- Targeted enemy bar: Shows the enemy’s name, level, and remaining health. The manual says silver indicates enemies of magical origin and red indicates other enemy types.
- Enemy-level color: Communicates the enemy’s level relative to Geralt.
- Skull beside an enemy bar: Marks a major threat.
- Boss bar: Names the current boss and displays its health separately.
Equipment, diving, and horse indicators
- Oxygen: Shows remaining air while Geralt is diving.
- Boat diagram: Its six sections show the boat’s condition. Red means it is severely damaged; black means it will sink.
- Equipment durability: A red durability indicator means the equipment is severely damaged.
- Horse indicators: Show the horse’s fear and stamina.
- Interaction prompts: Change according to the nearby object or person in focus.
Quest and item notifications
HUD notifications can report quest updates, items, fast-travel points, points of interest, level gains, and learned formulae. Remastered consolidates quest notifications into a single HUD notification, according to CD PROJEKT RED’s update notes.

What changed in the Remastered map and quest UI
CD PROJEKT RED’s update notes dated September 28, 2026 describe several specific changes to map and quest tracking:
- Untracked quests receive a distinct map marker and can be selected to begin tracking.
- The maximum number of map markers increased, and new markers were added.
- You can hide herbs, boats, and corpses from the minimap through Settings → Video → Interface.
- Quest notifications were consolidated into a single HUD notification.
These changes do not amount to a complete visual atlas: the official notes do not identify every new marker by shape. For a particular marker, check its map label and whether its associated quest is selected before assigning it a meaning.
Platform details are separate from the icon legend. PlayStation dates the PS5 Remastered upgrade to September 29, 2026, says it is free for existing PS5 owners, and specifies that it does not apply to the PS4 version. Those statements are specific to PlayStation’s product page; they should not be generalized to other platforms or editions.

Skill-tree symbols indicate ability categories and upgrades rather than HUD status. A secondary guide identifies Combat, Signs, Alchemy, General, Mutagens, and locked-skill icons, and discusses the five Signs: Aard, Igni, Yrden, Quen, and Axii. It also maps visible shapes to Aard, Igni, and Axii, but does not provide a complete shape-by-shape account for Yrden and Quen.

The official manual confirms the selected-Sign indicator’s role, but does not document every current Remastered Sign glyph. Treat a shape chart as a visual aid, not an official exhaustive key; verify the selected Sign in the game interface if two icons look alike.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Gwent symbols: read them as card and row rules
Gwent’s icons belong to the card game, not the exploration map or combat HUD. A secondary guide published October 6, 2026 describes the following symbols and effects. An official Gwent rules reference was not among the sources reviewed, so use the in-game card text when an effect’s exact wording matters.
| Symbol or label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Unit strength | The card’s strength value. |
| Siege, Ranged, Close Combat | The row where the unit is played. |
| Morale Boost | An ability that boosts other units in its row. |
| Card count | Indicates a card-count value or effect. |
| Hero | Marks a Hero card. |
| Scorch | Marks the Scorch effect. |
| Muster | Marks the Muster ability. |
| Commander’s Horn | Marks the Commander’s Horn effect. |
| Biting Frost, Impenetrable Fog, Torrential Rain, Clear Weather | Weather-card effects. |
| Decoy, Spy, Tight Bond, Medic | Card abilities or effects identified by those names. |
Map legends, atlases, and in-game markers are not interchangeable
A map atlas can explain broad categories without proving the exact shape of every marker on the Remastered interface. Prima Games’ Complete Edition guide groups map entries into quest types—including main quests, secondary quests, contracts, Gwent quests, fistfights, horse races, scavenger hunts, and treasure hunts—and points of interest such as abandoned sites, bandit camps, boats, guarded treasure, monster dens, and monster nests. Treat that as the atlas’s legend, not a guarantee that its artwork matches every platform’s current map display.
The guide also notes that loot associated with a chest marker may be in nearby barrels, crates, containers, or bodies; an asterisk can indicate an illusion blocking loot. These are useful search clues, but the marker’s in-game label remains the better guide to a specific location.
Quick Recap
When an icon remains unclear
- Identify whether you are looking at the HUD, minimap or world map, skill tree, or Gwent table.
- Read any adjacent label, tooltip, card text, or interaction prompt.
- On the map, check the selected quest and whether the marker is for a tracked or untracked objective.
- For a HUD icon, consult the relevant manual label, but remember the legacy manual may not cover newer Remastered glyphs.
- Adjust HUD visibility or minimap categories in the game’s interface settings if the screen is crowded.
