What does the 120,975 player figure mean?
SteamDB records 120,975 as The Witcher 3’s all-time peak concurrent Steam players on September 29, 2026. Concurrent players are the number online simultaneously at a particular moment. This is a Steam-only peak, not an average over the day, a count of unique players, or a total across all platforms. SteamDB’s chart identifies the peak and date.

That was a snapshot during reporting, not the final peak or an average. The same coverage noted an earlier January 2020 Steam concurrent-player peak of 103,000; that, too, is a peak-to-peak comparison rather than evidence about average players before and after the remaster. GamesRadar+’s release-day report provides that context.

Does the evidence verify a tenfold increase in average players?

The available SteamDB view does not show the before-and-after averages, the baseline, or the post-release observation window needed to calculate a tenfold change. Nor does a Steam chart establish a change across consoles and other PC stores.
To substantiate a claim of “10× average players,” a comparison would need to specify:
- Metric: average concurrent players, rather than peak concurrent players or unique players.
- Platform: Steam alone or a defined cross-platform dataset.
- Time windows: comparable periods before and after September 29, 2026.
- Baseline: the pre-release average, with relevant events such as discounts accounted for.
Until those values are supplied, the accurate conclusion is narrower: the 2026 release coincided with a new Steam concurrent-player record, while the asserted tenfold increase in average counts remains unverified.
How does this release differ from the 2022 next-gen update?
The September 2026 Remastered release should not be confused with the earlier next-gen Complete Edition update, which launched on December 14, 2022, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store. Existing owners could update for free, while dedicated digital next-gen releases were also offered for purchase. CD PROJEKT RED’s 2022 announcement described ray tracing and other visual changes, DLSS/FSR support, faster loading, camera and interface options, photo mode, integrated community mods, quest fixes, Netflix-inspired content, and cross-progression. Those features and the 2022 launch are separate from the 2026 release-day player peak.

CD PROJEKT S.A.’s annual report for 2022 said the next-gen release had a positive effect on sales revenues. It also reported that digital channels accounted for 96% of The Witcher 3 sales in that reporting period.
