The Witcher 3 on Switch 2: Best Graphics and Performance Settings (Remastered Guide)

Short answer: use the native The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered release for Nintendo Switch 2, install the latest Switch 2 build, and choose settings according to whether you value image clarity or steadier performance. CD PROJEKT RED has confirmed broad visual and performance upgrades, but it has not published a Switch 2 resolution, frame-rate cap, sharpness value, or other universal “best” preset. A recommendation that names exact values would be guesswork until those options are checked in the live game.

This guide therefore gives you a reliable way to identify the correct version, update it, tune handheld and docked play, and diagnose softness or stutter without pretending that unverified numbers are official. The original Switch edition and the native Switch 2 Remastered edition are separate experiences, even though Nintendo generally supports Switch games on Switch 2.

Which version are you actually playing?

The settings advice here is for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, the native Nintendo Switch 2 release announced by CD PROJEKT RED. It is not a guide to the original Switch version running through backward compatibility.

CD PROJEKT RED announced the Remastered release on September 29, 2026. It includes the complete base game plus Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and the company says owners of the original Switch version receive the Switch 2 Remastered upgrade at no extra cost. See the release announcement for the edition and upgrade details.

  • Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth and complexity

Nintendo says Switch software is generally playable on Switch 2 but cautions that some titles may not be fully compatible. That general rule does not replace the native release: if your library presents both an older Switch game and the Remastered Switch 2 version, select the latter for the hardware-specific improvements. Nintendo’s compatibility guidance is at Can I Play Nintendo Switch Games on Nintendo Switch 2?.

How to confirm the native release

  • Check the game’s title and product information in the Switch 2 HOME menu. It should identify the Remastered edition rather than only the original Switch release.
  • Open the game’s software-information or update screen and install every available update before judging sharpness or performance.
  • If you own the original Switch edition, look for the publisher-provided upgrade path instead of buying the complete game again. Eligibility is tied to ownership of the original Switch version.

What CD PROJEKT RED confirms—and what it does not

The publisher says the native version “takes advantage of the hardware capabilities of Nintendo Switch 2 to improve both performance and visual fidelity.” Its materials describe improved environmental, NPC and monster textures, enhanced foliage, reworked lighting and rendering, and performance improvements. The overview is available in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, Before and After.

The Switch 2 announcement also lists platform-specific play features, including motion controls for signs, crossbow shots, bombs, potions and Roach’s speed; gyro aiming; mouse controls; and touchscreen support for maps, menus and Gwent. Those features affect input and convenience, not the rendering preset.

The public announcements do not provide a Switch 2-specific target resolution, measured frame rate, graphics preset, dynamic-resolution range, frame-rate cap, upscaling mode or sharpness-slider value. They also do not establish a tested difference between handheld and docked modes. Do not import numbers from PC, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S coverage and label them as Switch 2 results.

Setting or metric What is established for Switch 2 Remastered
Resolution Not published by CD PROJEKT RED in the cited Switch 2 announcements.
Frame-rate target or cap Not published; no Switch 2 benchmark is established.
Sharpness value No official recommended value is published.
Graphics preset No official handheld or docked preset is specified.
Visual improvements Improved textures, foliage, lighting, rendering and overall visual fidelity are described by the publisher.
Performance improvements The publisher confirms improvements in general terms, without a numeric result.

Do this before changing graphics options

  1. Update the console and the game. Connect the Switch 2 to the internet, check for system updates, then highlight the game on HOME, press +, choose the software-update option and install the newest build offered for your region.
  2. Record the build number. In the game’s title screen, software information, or the console’s software-information panel, note the version shown. Settings behavior can change between builds, so keep this number with your observations.
  3. Use the same test scene. For a fair comparison, stand in one busy outdoor area, one interior, and one combat encounter. Look at foliage, distant geometry, faces, moving effects and camera pans instead of judging from a single still image.
  4. Test the mode you actually use. Handheld and docked play have different screen sizes, viewing distances and output paths. A setting that looks crisp on a handheld display may look soft on a television, while a television’s processing can add its own blur.
  5. Change one option at a time. If the current build exposes graphics, performance, resolution, dynamic-resolution, sharpness or related controls, alter one item, return to the same scene and compare. The published material does not establish the exact labels or menu arrangement, so use the labels shown by your build rather than a copied online menu path.

Best settings for handheld play

Handheld play puts the screen close to your eyes and makes fine detail, shimmering foliage and text readability more noticeable. Start with the clearest image the game can sustain, then back off only when you can see repeated hitching or distracting drops during traversal and combat.

Handheld decision order

  1. Prioritize readable detail. Compare Geralt’s hair, armor edges, distant signs, foliage and small map text. If the game offers a sharpness control, raise it gradually and stop when halos or ringing appear around high-contrast edges.
  2. Check motion, not just screenshots. Rotate the camera through foliage, ride Roach through a settlement and fight several enemies. Excessive temporal shimmer or unstable detail can be more distracting than a slightly softer but steadier image.
  3. Keep post-processing consistent. Do not compare one run with an altered motion-blur, film-grain or chromatic-aberration option against another run with those effects enabled. If such toggles exist in your build, record them alongside graphics changes.
  4. Use the display at a comfortable distance. Handheld clarity is affected by viewing angle, screen brightness and reflections. Clean the display and compare in the same lighting before concluding that a game setting caused softness.

There is no publisher-backed numerical handheld recipe to quote. The practical “best” choice is the clearest option that remains comfortable during a long ride, town visit and combat sequence on your verified build.

Best settings for docked play

Docked play magnifies scaling and television-processing issues. Begin with the television’s neutral or game picture mode, disable extra sharpening and motion interpolation, and let the console output a standard signal supported by the display. These television adjustments are separate from The Witcher 3’s in-game settings.

Docked decision order

  1. Set the television for low-latency viewing. Enable the display’s game mode if it has one. Turn off artificial motion smoothing; it can make camera movement look unnatural and add processing delay.
  2. Check console output before blaming the game. Confirm that the Switch 2 is connected directly to the television or receiver path you normally use and that the display is not applying a second scaling or overscan step.
  3. Compare distant detail at your normal seating distance. Examine tree lines, fences, rooftops and subtitles while panning slowly. A setting that looks sharper when you stand close to the television may look harsher from the sofa.
  4. Use a stable-performance option if the build provides one and clarity is already acceptable. Because CD PROJEKT RED has not published the menu’s exact values or measured trade-offs, judge the result in motion instead of assuming that a label guarantees a particular frame rate.

If docked output still looks soft after the game and console are current, test another HDMI input and temporarily disable the television’s added sharpness. This separates a game-image issue from display processing without inventing a Switch 2 preset.

How to make The Witcher 3 look sharper on Switch 2

Sharpness is affected by the game build, the display mode and the television or handheld screen. Use this sequence rather than immediately selecting the strongest sharpening value:

  1. Install the latest available game update and restart the software.
  2. Confirm that you are running the native Remastered release, not the original Switch application.
  3. In the current game settings, identify any image-quality, resolution, dynamic-resolution or sharpness controls that are actually present. Do not rely on a menu list from another platform.
  4. Capture a reference scene with a sign, foliage, character face and distant architecture.
  5. Increase clarity-related controls in small steps, checking for bright outlines, noisy foliage and shimmering during camera movement.
  6. If a higher-clarity choice causes obvious instability, return to the previous value and test a busier scene. The better setting is the one that remains legible while moving, not the one that wins a paused screenshot.
  7. On a television, reset added display sharpening and motion processing before making another in-game comparison.

CD PROJEKT RED specifically announced a Switch 2 image-clarity and sharpness improvement as forthcoming in its October 8, 2026 Patch 5.01 notice. That means a softness complaint can be build-dependent rather than proof that your chosen setting is wrong.

How to choose between image clarity and performance

Use the following goal-based framework when the game presents more than one rendering choice. It describes what to observe, not an unverified preset.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Your priority Choose the option that produces this result What to check afterward
Maximum image clarity Fine foliage, faces, signs and distant objects remain defined without bright sharpening halos. Pan the camera and ride through a settlement to check for shimmer or uneven motion.
Steadier performance Camera movement, traversal and combat feel consistent, even if distant detail is a little softer. Repeat a crowded fight and a fast Roach ride; do not judge only from a menu or paused scene.
Balanced everyday play Readable text and character detail with no distracting instability in common scenes. Use the same option in handheld and docked modes, then adjust separately if the build allows it.

No official Switch 2 test establishes which side of this trade-off wins by a fixed frame-rate or resolution number. Treat labels and sliders as controls to verify on your installed build, not as promises of a specific technical output.

Patch 5.01: why your result may change

In its October 8, 2026 announcement, CD PROJEKT RED said Patch 5.01 was live for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while the Switch 2 update was still in development. The company said the forthcoming Switch 2 work would move the version closer to parity with other editions and “improve on some Nintendo Switch 2-specific aspects, such as image clarity and sharpness.” Read the notice at Patch 5.01 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is live!.

Because the Switch 2 update was described as forthcoming on that date, date any settings recommendation and include the game build you checked. Before publishing or relying on an older guide, open the game’s update screen and verify whether the Switch 2 patch has arrived in your region. A later update may alter image clarity, menu options or performance behavior.

Performance troubleshooting without guessing

The image looks soft everywhere

  • Verify that the native Remastered application is installed and current.
  • Check whether the Switch 2-specific clarity update has become available since your previous test.
  • On a television, disable extra display sharpening, motion interpolation and overscan, then test another HDMI path.
  • Compare a handheld scene and a docked scene. If only the television image is soft, investigate the display chain before changing the game.

Motion looks uneven in busy areas

  • Repeat the same town, combat and Roach-travel tests after restarting the game.
  • If the build offers a performance-oriented option, test it against the clarity-oriented choice while watching camera movement rather than paused detail.
  • Note whether the behavior occurs only in one location or in every scene. A location-specific result is not evidence of a universal frame-rate limit.

Text or menus are difficult to read

  • Check the console and television picture mode, viewing distance and brightness.
  • Use the game’s accessibility or interface-size options if your build provides them.
  • Do not compensate with extreme sharpening; halos around letters can reduce readability.

Controls feel different from the original Switch version

The Switch 2 Remastered announcement lists motion controls for signs, the crossbow, bombs, potions and Roach’s speed, plus gyro aiming, mouse controls and touchscreen support for maps, menus and Gwent. These are built-in platform features described by the publisher; the sources do not establish a required accessory. If you prefer traditional controls, disable or ignore motion and gyro options where the current build allows it.

Does The Witcher 3 get a Switch 2 upgrade?

Yes. CD PROJEKT RED’s September 29, 2026 release announcement identifies a native Nintendo Switch 2 Remastered version and says existing owners of the original Switch game are eligible for the upgrade at no extra cost. The upgraded package includes the base game and both expansions. Read the announcement at CD PROJEKT RED’s release page.

If you do not own the game, the documented route is the original Nintendo Switch edition followed by the publisher’s upgrade path. The cited information does not verify current store inventory, price, regional packaging or a particular physical SKU, so check the listing for your region before purchasing. Existing owners should confirm eligibility in their Nintendo account or game listing rather than buying a duplicate copy.

Where to get technical help

CD PROJEKT RED’s Nintendo Switch technical-support index links to the Remastered FAQ, performance help and microSD guidance. It is the appropriate place to check current troubleshooting articles and platform notices: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Nintendo Switch – TECHNICAL.

When contacting support, include the Switch 2 system version, game build, handheld or docked mode, display type, the scene where the problem occurs and whether the issue remains after a restart. Those details make a reproducible report more useful than saying only that the game “looks bad” or “runs slowly.”

What a trustworthy settings recommendation can say today

For the native Switch 2 Remastered release, the defensible recommendation is procedural: update first, verify the build, compare clarity and motion in repeatable scenes, and select the option that matches your priority. Official materials support improved visuals and performance, but they do not support a universal resolution, frame-rate, sharpness or handheld/docked preset. The Switch 2 image-clarity update announced as forthcoming on October 8, 2026 makes the build date part of any honest recommendation.
