Blood and Wine sends Geralt to Toussaint to investigate the Beast of Beauclair, a killer whose crimes lead to Syanna, the duchess’s estranged sister, and Dettlaff, a higher vampire whose relationship with Syanna triggers a crisis for the duchy. The main branch asks whether Geralt pursues Syanna or seeks the Unseen Elder. On the Syanna route, a ribbon can save her from Dettlaff; later choices determine whether she and Anna Henrietta reconcile or die in a palace tragedy.

What happens in Blood and Wine?
Toussaint looks like a sunny, indulgent land of courtly ritual, but a string of killings in Beauclair draws Geralt into a political and personal crisis. CD PROJEKT RED’s 2015 announcement described the expansion as a “20-hour-plus tale” and said its carefree atmosphere and knightly traditions mask an ancient, bloody secret. That figure is the publisher’s advertised estimate, not a guaranteed playtime. Its developer diary presents the expansion as Geralt’s final mission and introduces Toussaint and its features.
Geralt and Regis follow the evidence behind the Beast’s murders. The trail connects the killings to Syanna, Anna Henrietta’s missing or exiled sister, who has been acting under the name Rhenawedd. Syanna’s revenge is tied to the people involved in her exile. A plot synopsis describes these events, but the broad point is clearer than any claim about a precise sequence of every clue: the Beast investigation becomes a story about resentment, revenge, and the consequences of the sisters’ separation.

Dettlaff, a higher vampire, sees his relationship with Syanna as betrayed and threatens Toussaint after learning about her part in the events. Anna Henrietta confines Syanna and orders Geralt to deal with Dettlaff. Neither side makes for a simple innocent-versus-monster story: Syanna orchestrates revenge, while Dettlaff’s retaliation endangers people across the duchy.
Who is the Beast of Beauclair?
The murders attributed to the Beast are connected to Syanna’s revenge plot. The investigation reveals that she has been acting as Rhenawedd, and that the killings are bound up with the people she blames for her exile. Dettlaff is also central to the crisis: his response to what he learns about Syanna escalates the danger to Toussaint. The Beast mystery therefore has both a human motive and a supernatural consequence.
Which route should you choose in the Night of the Long Fangs?
During “The Night of the Long Fangs,” Geralt faces the central route choice: pursue Syanna or seek the Unseen Elder, who can force an audience with Dettlaff. The routes lead to different circumstances and affect the available outcomes. The Syanna route can take Geralt to the Land of a Thousand Fables, where a consequential item can change what happens at Tesham Mutna.
| Route or outcome | Syanna | Anna Henrietta | Dettlaff | What happens |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reconciliation outcome | Lives | Lives | Dies | Geralt pursues Syanna, gets the ribbon, and makes the choices needed for reconciliation before the ceremony. “Good” or “best” are player judgments, not objective descriptions. |
| Sisters’ tragedy | Dies at the ceremony | Dies | Dies | Syanna reaches the ceremony but kills Anna Henrietta; Damien then kills Syanna. |
| Syanna dies before trial | Dies at Tesham Mutna | Lives | May survive, depending on route and confrontation | On the Syanna route, if Geralt has not obtained the ribbon, Dettlaff can kill her at Tesham Mutna. The Unseen Elder route is a separate branch with its own confrontation and possible outcomes. |
These are broad outcome patterns, not a complete map of every branch or side consequence. The ending guide describes three main endings, but the result is shaped by the route and later actions rather than one isolated dialogue choice.
What does the ribbon do?
In the Land of a Thousand Fables, Geralt can obtain a protective ribbon from a little girl. If he has it, Syanna survives Dettlaff’s attack at Tesham Mutna. Without it on the Syanna route, Dettlaff can kill her there. The ribbon is therefore a decisive story item, not a cosmetic collectible.

How do you get the Blood and Wine ending where both sisters survive?
- Pursue Syanna during “The Night of the Long Fangs” so the story can take Geralt to the Land of a Thousand Fables.
- Get the ribbon from the little girl in that land. It protects Syanna when Dettlaff attacks at Tesham Mutna.
- Make the reconciliation choices in the later conversations and before the palace ceremony. These actions allow both sisters to survive.
The broad requirements are established by the ending guide, but an exact, authoritative line-by-line dialogue sequence is not established here. The useful distinction is that saving Syanna from Dettlaff and reconciling the sisters are separate parts of reaching the outcome where both live.
Can Syanna and Anna Henrietta both survive?
Yes. Both survive if Syanna is protected by the ribbon and the later reconciliation actions succeed. If Syanna reaches the ceremony without reconciling with Anna Henrietta, Syanna kills the duchess and Damien then kills Syanna. If Syanna dies at Tesham Mutna, Anna Henrietta survives, but the sisters cannot reconcile at the ceremony.
Is there one correct ending?
No single ending is objectively correct. The story asks the player to weigh Syanna’s responsibility for revenge, Dettlaff’s dangerous retaliation, and the sisters’ chance to repair their relationship. The most practical way to compare outcomes is by who survives, whether Geralt sought Syanna or the Unseen Elder, and whether reconciliation happens before the ceremony.
For players checking what the expansion includes, Bandai Namco’s official Witcher 3 site says the Complete Edition contains the base game and both story expansions, including Blood and Wine. That page does not establish current retail availability or platform-specific listing details.
