In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Geralt’s haircut and beard are selected through separate barber prompts, so you can combine one hairstyle with one beard trim. The standard menu contains six hairstyles and five beard options. A seventh haircut, Queen’s Pageboy, is available from Jean-Louis Ludovic in Beauclair after his rescue quest.
How Geralt’s barber choices work
When Geralt speaks to a barber, the conversation presents hairstyle and beard services separately. Select a haircut first, then choose a beard trim if you want to change both. The two decisions are independent: changing the hair does not force a particular beard, and choosing a beard does not replace the haircut.

The ordinary barber menu has six listed hairstyles and five listed beard trims. The only documented hairstyle exception is Queen’s Pageboy, which is tied to a specific barber in the Blood and Wine setting. Most barbers share the same standard menu, so visiting a different town usually changes access rather than adding a new catalogue of cuts.

All six standard hairstyles
The barber menu uses descriptive prompts rather than short names. This table translates each prompt into the look it creates and the main visual feature to expect.
| Barber prompt | Visual arrangement | Best fit if you want |
|---|---|---|
| “Loosely gathered, tied behind the head.” | Long hair gathered at the back in a relaxed tie. | A practical tied-back style that still leaves substantial length. |
| “Shaved head and ponytail.” | Most of the head is shaved, with a distinct ponytail retained. | A stark, high-contrast style built around the ponytail. |
| “Long and loose.” | Long hair hangs freely instead of being tied. | The fullest loose-hair appearance. |
| “Loose, not too long.” | Hair remains loose but is shorter than the long-and-loose option. | A less dramatic version of the unbound look. |
| “Shaved on the sides, short on top, and a ponytail.” | Close-shaved sides, cropped top, and a ponytail at the back. | An undercut-style silhouette with both short and long sections. |
| “Elven rebel cut.” | A deliberately distinctive fantasy-inspired cut with short, swept sections. | A visibly stylized look rather than a conventional tied or loose style. |
These six prompts make the main distinctions clear: tied versus loose hair, long versus shorter length, and whether the sides are shaved. The names describe the arrangement, so preview Geralt after selecting a prompt if you are deciding between similar options.
Queen’s Pageboy: the seventh haircut
“Queen’s pageboy” is an additional hairstyle offered by Jean-Louis Ludovic in Beauclair. It is not part of the standard menu available from ordinary barbers. To access it, you must be playing in the Blood and Wine expansion and complete the rescue quest Of Sheers and a Witcher I Sing, which frees Jean-Louis and makes his barber service available.
Because the option is tied to Jean-Louis, finding another barber in Toussaint does not automatically provide a second unique haircut. The documented location-specific exception is this pageboy cut; expansion barbers should not be assumed to have additional exclusive hairstyles.
All five beard trims
| Barber prompt | Result | What happens afterward |
|---|---|---|
| “Need a clean shave.” | Geralt has no beard immediately after the service. | The beard grows back toward a full beard as in-game days pass. |
| “Keep it fluffy.” | A fuller, deliberately untrimmed-looking beard. | Retains the heavy-beard appearance rather than removing it. |
| “Want a nice, neat goatee.” | A controlled goatee focused around the chin and mouth. | Leaves the rest of the face more closely groomed. |
| “Sideburns and mustache – that’ll look good.” | Sideburns and mustache remain while the chin is not presented as a full beard. | Creates a clearly separated mustache-and-sideburn profile. |
| “Mustache and a little duck tail on my chin – that’s what I want.” | A mustache paired with a small pointed beard on the chin. | Produces the most distinctive partial-beard shape in the standard list. |
The clean-shaven selection is not a permanent removal. If you continue playing and let in-game time pass, facial hair grows back into a full beard. Choose that option when you want a temporary bare-faced appearance rather than assuming Geralt will remain clean-shaven indefinitely.
Where to find barbers and what unlocks them
Barbers are spread across the base game and the expansion areas. The following locations are documented as places where Geralt can receive barber services.
| Area | Barber or location | Access note |
|---|---|---|
| Vizima | Cledwyn | Available at the Vizima location. |
| Kaer Trolde Harbor | Sjusta | Found in the harbor settlement. |
| Svorlag | Local barber | Located in the Skellige village. |
| Claywich | Local barber | Must be freed from a bandit cage before he can provide the service. |
| Novigrad, Gildorf district | Local barber | One of the city’s standard barber locations. |
| Novigrad, Bits district | Local barber | Often drunk; on some visits he may fail to provide the style you request. |
| Oxenfurt | Local barber | Available in the university city. |
| Beauclair | Jean-Louis Ludovic | Requires his rescue during Of Sheers and a Witcher I Sing; this is the source of Queen’s Pageboy. |
| Toussaint Tourney Grounds | Local barber | Located at the tourney grounds in the expansion region. |
| Basane Farm | Local barber | Appears after Geralt kills the werewolf there. |
For a normal haircut or beard change, use whichever unlocked barber is nearest. If you specifically want Queen’s Pageboy, travel to Beauclair and complete Jean-Louis’s rescue rather than checking every barber in Toussaint.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How to change the hairstyle and beard separately
- Reach an available barber. Use a town or settlement listed above. If the barber is tied to an event, complete that event first.
- Start the barber conversation. Choose the service for hairstyle or hair styling when the menu appears.
- Select one of the hairstyle prompts. Pick any of the six standard cuts, or choose Queen’s Pageboy when speaking with Jean-Louis Ludovic after his rescue.
- Return to the service choices. The beard service is a separate selection, not a sub-option that is permanently attached to the haircut.
- Choose a beard prompt. Select clean shave, fluffy beard, goatee, sideburns and mustache, or mustache with a small ducktail.
- Confirm the service and inspect Geralt. Hair and facial hair update independently, allowing the combination you want.
If the result is not what you expected, visit the barber again and select the other service rather than changing both categories. A haircut change will not undo your beard choice.
Which combinations make sense?
The game does not restrict combinations by length or style. The useful way to compare them is by visual contrast:
Rank #2
- If you buy this game, you will receive a free next-gen update on December 14th!
- Play as a highly trained monster slayer for hire.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth and complexity.
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Game of the Year edition brings together the base game and all the additional content released to date.
- Long hair with a fluffy beard: the fullest, most rugged silhouette.
- Long and loose hair with a clean shave: maximum contrast between flowing hair and a bare face.
- Shaved head and ponytail with a goatee: keeps the face sharply defined while preserving the ponytail.
- Shaved sides with the ducktail beard: combines an aggressive undercut profile with a small chin accent.
- Elven rebel cut with sideburns and mustache: emphasizes the stylized haircut without using a full beard.
- Queen’s Pageboy with any beard trim: the pageboy is a hair choice, not a package that forces a particular facial-hair style.
These are appearance examples rather than gameplay classes. Hair and beard selections change Geralt’s look, not his combat statistics, dialogue options, or equipment properties.

CD PROJEKT RED announced the Beard and Hairstyle Set as free DLC on 12 June 2015. The announcement described the set as available from various barbers and intended to let players customize Geralt’s beard and hairstyle. It also included download instructions for GOG Galaxy, Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Those platform instructions were written for the store interfaces of 2015. They are historical context, not a guarantee that every current launcher displays the same menus. On a modern installation, the practical check is whether the barber services and the relevant expansion content are installed and available in-game.
Common access problems
The Claywich barber is missing
Look for the barber in a bandit cage at Claywich. He must be rescued before he becomes available for grooming services.
Jean-Louis does not offer Queen’s Pageboy
Confirm that you are in Beauclair, have access to Blood and Wine, and have completed Of Sheers and a Witcher I Sing. The haircut is tied to Jean-Louis’s post-rescue availability.
The Basane Farm barber is not present
Complete the werewolf encounter at Basane Farm. The barber appears after Geralt kills the werewolf there.

The Bits barber does not follow the request
The Novigrad barber in the Bits district is often drunk and may not give the requested style. Try the service again or use another unlocked barber in Gildorf, Oxenfurt, or elsewhere.
The clean shave grows back
That behavior is expected. The clean-shave option removes the beard temporarily; passing in-game days allows it to grow into a full beard again.
Bottom line for choosing a look
Use any convenient standard barber for the six regular hairstyles and five beard trims, selecting hair and facial hair in separate prompts. Treat Queen’s Pageboy as the one documented exception: it requires the Blood and Wine region of Beauclair and Jean-Louis Ludovic’s rescue. If a barber is unavailable, resolve the local event first—free the captive in Claywich, defeat the Basane Farm werewolf, or rescue Jean-Louis—then return to choose each part of Geralt’s appearance independently.
