“The week’s best photos” is a recurring gallery from The Week, not one single dated collection. Each edition brings together photographs of current affairs and human-interest scenes from around the world, with captions describing what is happening and credits identifying the image source.
What is The Week’s best photos?
It is an editorial photo gallery published in multiple dated editions. The selections span different places and subjects rather than documenting one event or location. Earlier editions have also appeared under the related title “The week’s best photojournalism.”

The format is visible in recent galleries. The July 17, 2026 edition, curated by The Week Digital photo editor Stephen Kelly, included scenes involving football fans in Dallas, submerged cypress trees in China, miniature Mozart sculptures in Salzburg, the aftermath of an airstrike in Gaza, a Tokyo lantern festival, a wildfire in France and the Tour de France. The May 29, 2026 edition ranged from cycling and a beach in Portugal to Kyiv after bombardment, Eid preparations in Karachi and displaced people in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Use the captions for context
Each image is accompanied by a caption identifying the scene. Together, the pictures offer a compact visual digest, but they are not a complete account of the week’s news; the caption is the place to check what and where a particular photograph depicts.

Check the credit on each image
Credits attribute photographs to agencies and publishers, including Reuters, AP, AFP, Getty Images, EPA, Shutterstock, Xinhua and VCG. A credit identifies the image’s credited source; it does not establish that The Week owns the photograph or that it is available to buy, license or reuse.
What kinds of images appear?
The mix can include serious news, such as conflict and disaster, alongside sport, festivals and lighter human-interest scenes. For example, the December 1, 2023 edition—published as “The week’s best photojournalism”—paired a Thanksgiving parade with an erupting volcano.
