The short is scheduled for online release on October 14, 2026, while Riggs has said he would welcome the chance to work with director Zach Cregger if Cregger continues the Resident Evil film universe. That is an expression of interest—not a sequel announcement or a casting deal.
What Chandler Riggs’ Resident Evil short is
Biohazard is an independently made fan film based on Capcom’s 2017 survival-horror game Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. GamesRadar+ reports that Riggs wrote and directed the project and plays its lead character, Ethan Winters. It is not a confirmed official Capcom movie.

The story follows Ethan as he searches for his missing wife and becomes entangled with the infected Baker family, the same central setup that drives the game. The reported runtime is 19 minutes. Rather than relying heavily on digital effects, the production emphasizes practical sets and practical effects.

- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Why the short is being discussed alongside Zach Cregger’s film
The timing connects Riggs’ fan project with Sony Pictures’ Resident Evil movie. Sony’s official film page lists Zach Cregger as director and credits Cregger and Shay Hatten as writers, with a theatrical release date of September 18, 2026.
Riggs told IGN, in comments relayed by GamesRadar+, that Biohazard was already in pre-production when news of Cregger’s movie emerged. “We were in pre-production when the article came out that Zack Cregger was going to do his [movie],” Riggs said. He also explained that the team had hoped to finish earlier: “We were trying to beat the clock and get it out about a month ago, but parts just didn’t align that way.”

- FEAR COMES HOME -- Fear, combat, exploration, and item management: these are the four pillars of survival horror, a genre that has never been more masterfully executed than in the gameplay of Resident Evil. The horror continues in the ground-breaking Resident Evil 7. Step into the new Isolated View and experience true survival horror in a world created by the all-new RE Engine.
- DEEP IN THE BAYOU - When Ethan Winters opened his inbox, the last thing he expected was to find an email from his wife; she had been missing for three years. The message was simple: "Come get me," and an address in Louisiana. This leads Ethan to a decrepit mansion in the heart of the bayou. The place has a seriously creepy vibe, but Ethan continues his search – until a stranger attacks him and knocks him unconscious. Ethan has no idea what awaits him when he wakes up...for he is now in the clutches of the Baker family.
- A NEW PERSPECTIVE -- In RESIDENT EVIL 7, we're changing the way you interact with the world. For this next major entry in the series, play from a first-person point of view, dramatically increasing your ability to become fully absorbed in the world we have created.
- NEW FOR PLAYSTATION5 – Upgraded features new to the PlayStation5 version of the game include a higher frame rate, 3D audio, added ray tracing, and engaging DualSense support for Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.
That overlap makes the short a timely fan response to a new official adaptation, but it does not make the two productions connected. Biohazard is Riggs’ own interpretation of the game, whereas Sony’s film is a separate studio production.
Does Chandler Riggs want to appear in a Resident Evil sequel?
Riggs has publicly indicated that he would be interested if Cregger continued in the franchise. “So, if [Cregger] wants to continue in the universe, I’m all for it. Listen, my phone is open. Hit my line!” he said, according to the GamesRadar+ report of his IGN interview.

- TERRIFYING ZOMBIES WAITING AROUND EVERY CORNER -- Driven by insatiable hunger, these creatures act on instinct, gnashing their teeth, ripping at flesh, and devouring their victims. The new immersive camera lets you feel their fangs as they sink into your flesh.
- RACCOON CITY, REBUILT IN INTRICATE DETAIL -- The characters, environments, and story have all been rebuilt from the ground up to create a terrifying world that feels both nostalgic and new.
- NEW FOR PLAYSTATION5 – Upgraded features new to the PlayStation5 version of the game include a higher frame rate, 3D audio, added ray tracing, and engaging DualSense support for Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.
The comment establishes enthusiasm, not a production plan. There is no confirmed sequel, offer, negotiations or casting arrangement attached to it. Sony’s official page identifies the first Cregger film and its credits, but does not announce a follow-up. Any future role for Riggs would therefore be speculation until the filmmakers or studio make an official statement.
What viewers should expect from Biohazard
- A fan interpretation: The short draws directly from Resident Evil 7 rather than presenting itself as a new official Capcom feature.
- A compact story: At 19 minutes, it focuses on Ethan’s search for his wife and his encounter with the Baker family instead of attempting the scale of a feature-length adaptation.
- Practical filmmaking: The reported emphasis on physical sets and effects is part of the project’s identity, with limited visual-effects work.
- A Riggs-led production: He is credited as writer and director and appears as Ethan, giving the project a personal connection to the game and its horror tone.
The key distinction between the two projects
Riggs’ short and Cregger’s movie share a franchise but not an announced continuity. Biohazard adapts the specific premise of Resident Evil 7; Sony’s film has its own screenplay and production credits. Riggs’ willingness to join a future installment is best understood as an open invitation to collaborate, not evidence that he has been approached.
