The report concerns one company’s domain on a specific iOS and Safari version—not evidence that Safari blocks all ads or all programmatic advertising.
What The Trade Desk reported
On September 21, 2026, Ian Meyers, The Trade Desk’s senior director of engineering, filed WebKit Bugzilla issue 324771. The issue title says adsrvr.org was included in the IS_REQUEST_UNCONDITIONALLY_BLOCKABLE domain list. Meyers said the report was based on requests blocked on iOS 27 while viewing a Yahoo article in non-private browsing. The issue lists iPhone and iPad.

Meyers described adsrvr.org as The Trade Desk’s “core ad request and delivery domain, not identity.” That is the company’s characterization; the public record cited here does not provide a separate technical audit of the domain’s role. The WebKit bug report is the primary account of the allegation.
AdExchanger’s September 29 report described the consequence as The Trade Desk being unable to serve ads to Safari on Apple devices running iOS 27. It also said an example in the bug report showed The Trade Desk bids blocked on a Yahoo page while Google bids passed. That comparison is AdExchanger’s account of the example, rather than a parsed comparative analysis published on the WebKit issue page.

Does this mean Safari is blocking all ads?
No. The reported behavior is about requests to one named domain, adsrvr.org, in Safari 27 on iOS 27. It does not establish that Safari blocks every ad, every ad network, or programmatic advertising generally. Some ads may load through other domains or routes, and the available sources do not quantify how much Safari traffic was affected.
WebKit’s Private Browsing known-tracker blocker is a separate feature and should not be confused with this report, which concerned non-private browsing. WebKit says that feature blocks some network loads but “intentionally allows most ads to continue loading.” That statement describes Private Browsing behavior; it does not explain why the reported requests to adsrvr.org were blocked. WebKit’s description of Private Browsing 2.0 gives more detail.

How this fits with Safari’s privacy protections
WebKit documents protections against cross-site tracking, including third-party cookie blocking. Its Intelligent Tracking Prevention uses resource-load statistics and patterns of cross-site tracking to classify domains. These are useful background to Safari’s privacy approach, but the sources do not establish the full decision process that put adsrvr.org on the particular unconditional-blocking list. WebKit’s general documentation should not be read as confirmation of The Trade Desk’s explanation of this incident. See WebKit’s tracking-prevention documentation.

Has Apple fixed the reported issue?
The public WebKit issue records an investigation and a beta test opportunity, not a confirmed final fix. WebKit’s John Wilander replied on September 22, 2026, “Thanks for filing, Ian! I also got your email. We’re investigating.” On September 28, he said, “I will let you know if and when any changes are available for you to test.”
On October 5, Wilander said a new iOS 27.2 beta was available for testing. Meyers replied that he saw changes in build 24B5099f and would test them and report any issues. The issue remained marked NEW when checked October 7, 2026. These comments show that changes were offered for testing and acknowledged by The Trade Desk; they do not confirm that a fix shipped in a public release or that testing verified the behavior was resolved. What publishers can—and cannot—conclude about revenue
The sources provide no verified incident-specific estimate for lost publisher revenue, blocked impressions, or affected traffic. AdExchanger’s analysis raises a practical possibility: a browser-level delivery interruption could look like weaker demand in aggregate reporting. That is a diagnostic concern, not a measured impact for this incident.
