Which opening applies to your playthrough?
“The Sunstone” is a main quest in Skellige and part of the late-game Battle Preparations objectives. Its opening is determined by the ruler established earlier in your playthrough, rather than by a choice you make when starting this quest. Check the quest journal for your current objective and the recommended level shown in your game; a dependable level recommendation across editions and settings is not established here. If Cerys or Hjalmar rules: go to Kaer Muire
Travel to Kaer Muire and meet Ermion and Madman Lugos. The encounter turns into a fight with Lugos and his men whether Geralt takes a confrontational or diplomatic approach in the conversation. Ermion helps with magic; staying near him can be useful as you fight and move toward the gate.
If Svanrige Bran rules: go to the Bridge to Kaer Trolde
Go to the Bridge to Kaer Trolde and proceed into the keep. In the feast hall, a confrontation involving the imperial emissary and Nilfgaardian guards leads to a fight. Draw your weapon and defeat the guards with help from those present.

Both paths meet at Ermion
After the branch-specific encounter, speak to Ermion and ask about the Sunstone. He identifies two possible leads: the skald Eyvind and the pearl diver Matthias Fish Lung.
Should you talk to Eyvind or the pearl diver?
The journal presents talking to Eyvind and finding and talking to Matthias Fish Lung as alternative objectives. Choose the lead you want to pursue, then complete the objective currently shown in your journal. Both are information-gathering routes; the available quest listing does not establish a meaningful difference in the later artifact objective. The leads are associated with the Arinbjorn bay area.
- Eyvind: Follow the journal’s objective to talk to the skald.
- Matthias Fish Lung: Follow the objective to find and speak with the pearl diver.
Once the lead objective is complete, proceed to Yennefer as the quest directs. The precise timed dialogue wording for the Eyvind route is not established here, so follow the objective displayed in your journal rather than relying on a particular dialogue prompt.

Where is Philippa in the elven ruins?
After following the lead, speak to Yennefer and meet Philippa in the elven ruins. Continue through the ruins with her, fighting the monsters you encounter and following the quest markers toward the Sunstone chamber. The journal updates guide the exploration; the goal is to reach the mechanism and artifact area together.

How do you solve the Sunstone mirror puzzle?
The objective is to set up the mirror system so reflected light reaches the platform and reveals the Sunstone. Use the mirrors’ controls to redirect the light, watching how each adjustment changes its path. The quest’s objective order places setting up the mirrors immediately before examining the Sunstone.
- At the mirror mechanism, inspect the light path and identify which mirror needs adjustment to direct the beam onward.
- Use the available mirror controls to align the reflected light toward the platform.
- Continue adjusting the system until the light reveals the Sunstone.
- Approach the revealed artifact and examine it to complete the objective.
There is no sufficiently verified universal lever sequence to give as a fixed number of pulls. Follow the visible beam and the journal objective rather than assuming every mirror needs a prescribed number of turns.
What choices affect the quest?
The ruler determines which opening you encounter, while the Eyvind and Matthias objectives are alternative ways to pursue the information lead. In the Kaer Muire opening, choosing diplomacy rather than accusation does not avoid the fight with Lugos and his men. The available quest information does not establish that this conversation controls the main ending or Ciri’s fate.
