To dispel Ma Fishface’s ward in The Sinking City 2, find Freddie’s Urn behind the painting near the Cold Storage exit, then use it on the ward at the second-floor Abandoned Office. The painting’s target is the figure without an instrument—the second man from the right.
Find Freddie’s Urn behind the painting
- Check the clues, if needed. The Eulogy for Old Freddie is on the pub’s second-floor bar; the Tide Runners clue is in the basement by Cold Storage. One Fish Market walkthrough recommends linking Old Freddie – Ex Voto, Eulogy for Old Freddie, and Old Shop Ward in the Investigation menu. Into Indie Games describes the clue connections.
- Return to the painting near the Cold Storage exit. Find the figure without a musical instrument, second from the right. Walkthroughs identify him as the target.
- Hit that figure. One guide says shooting or melee can reveal the compartment; another specifically describes shooting. If the compartment does not appear, try shooting the figure.
- Collect the urn. Interact with the opened compartment to pick up Freddie’s Urn. Breaking the painting does not automatically collect it.
Use the urn on the ward
- Go to the second floor and find the ward at the Abandoned Office entrance.
- Use Freddie’s Urn on the ward. Walkthroughs report that Faye sings the melody and the barrier opens.
- Enter Ma Fishface’s Shop to continue the chapter. After the scene, the chapter walkthrough notes a Leyden Jar on the counter.
Common puzzle mistakes
- Using the wrong item: Freddie’s Urn is the item walkthroughs specify for the ward. Leyden Jars are used in other puzzles.
- Hitting the wrong figure: Aim for the instrument-free man, second from the right, rather than another musician in the painting.
- Leaving before collecting the urn: Open the compartment, then interact with it to pick up the urn before returning to the second floor.
These steps are reported by walkthroughs rather than official game documentation, so minor details such as the exact attack method may vary by guide.
