Install a digital copy through the EA app
- Install and open the EA app, then sign in to the EA account associated with your purchase.
- Open Library and select The Sims 3.
- Choose the install option and follow the prompts. Once installation completes, launch the game from the app.
EA Help identifies the EA app as the replacement for Origin for downloading and launching The Sims 3 on PC and Mac. If you already own the game, check the account and library where you bought it before purchasing another copy.
What you need before installing
- An internet connection and an EA account.
- The EA app for the EA download route.
- Registration using the enclosed single-use serial code, as specified in EA’s PC download terms.
- Updates required for play and access to online features, according to those terms.
Steam’s listing also specifies internet access, an EA account, and one-time serial registration to access online services. Requirements can differ by storefront and by whether you are using online features.

Windows requirements and modern compatibility
EA’s published minimum specifications are legacy requirements for the original game; meeting them does not guarantee that every current PC or Windows configuration will run it correctly.

Do not confuse the game’s original minimum operating systems with the storefront client’s requirements. Steam states that its client has supported Windows 10 and later since January 1, 2024. That is a Steam client requirement, not a revision of EA’s older game specifications.
