A moderator announcement on October 15, 2026, described such mods as low quality and warned that repeatedly posting them could result in a ban. A clarification on October 17 expanded the policy to “ALL CUSTOM CONTENT FOR THE SIMS 2” made through AI vibe coding.
What the new rule says
The initial moderator notice used broad language: “ALL AI VIBE CODED MODS ARE BANNED.” It also introduced an authorship check for major changes to the game. The October 17 clarification removed a potential ambiguity by stating that the ban covers all Sims 2 custom content made in this way, not only gameplay-changing packages.

In this context, “vibe coded” refers to work produced through an AI-led coding process rather than ordinary development with limited assistance. The announcements do not define a measurable threshold separating acceptable AI assistance from prohibited AI-generated work. Readers should therefore treat the rule as a moderator-enforced prohibition on work they classify as AI vibe coded, not as a published technical standard.

Which projects are affected?

The policy does not say that every project receiving any AI help is automatically prohibited. It also does not publish a definition of “major” or explain how moderators will classify a borderline project. Those distinctions remain subject to moderator interpretation.

When Modder flair is required
Creators posting a major change to The Sims 2 must be the developer when the mod was published after 2020 and must apply for Modder flair through modmail. The application asks for:
- the mod’s name;
- where readers can find it;
- how it was made; and
- what AI tools were used, and how they were used.
The pre-2020 exemption applies to the major-change verification rule. It does not override the separate ban on AI vibe-coded work if moderators determine that an older project falls within that category.

Limits on promoting a mod
Even approved creators face a posting-frequency rule: only one mod-promotion post may be active at a time, and promotion is limited to once per week. Plan release announcements, update posts and troubleshooting threads around that limit rather than reposting the same project repeatedly.
How enforcement will work is not yet documented
The moderators have not published a technical test for detecting vibe-coded work, a required form of evidence, or a formal appeal process. The announcements also do not explain how authorship or AI use will be independently verified. Questions in the discussion about proof and enforcement are community debate, not an official procedure.

That means disclosure is the safest practical approach. Keep a clear record of who developed the project, when it was published, what tools were used and what those tools did. Such records cannot guarantee approval, because the subreddit has not promised a particular evidence standard, but they make a modmail application more concrete.
Privacy risks for network-connected mods
There is a separate safety issue for AI-assisted projects that send game data to an online service. Mod The Sims’ “Usage of AI LLMs” rubric warns that external services can create privacy and security risks the site cannot review, verify or control. Making source code available does not remove those risks. Before installing a network-connected mod, check what information leaves the computer, which service receives it, whether transmission can be disabled and whether the project works entirely offline.

What creators should do before posting
- Confirm that the project is not AI vibe coded under the subreddit’s broad, currently undefined standard.
- Record the development date and identify whether the project is a major game change.
- If it is a post-2020 major-change mod, apply for Modder flair through modmail before promotion.
- Describe AI assistance accurately, including the tool and the specific role it played.
- Check that no other promotion post is active and that at least a week has passed since the last one.
- Avoid heavily AI-edited screenshots, which moderators say may be removed.
- For any online-connected component, evaluate data collection and security exposure before release.
What players should expect
Players may see AI vibe-coded mods and custom content removed, and repeat promotion can lead to a subreddit ban. Older, non-AI-vibe-coded projects are not automatically disqualified merely because they predate the new rule; the explicit pre-2020 exception concerns the major-change verification requirement. Because detection and appeals are undocumented, users with a disputed removal will need to rely on the moderators’ instructions in the relevant thread or modmail exchange.
