The Room: Old Sins is a linked-room puzzle adventure: solve a mechanism, collect the tool or model part it reveals, then revisit the dollhouse or an earlier room when that item finds a use. This walkthrough follows the main progression from the Attic and Foyer through the Study and later rooms, explains the key cross-room dependencies, and separates story records from puzzle items. It does not claim an exhaustive optional-collectible count.
How to use this walkthrough
Fireproof Games describes Old Sins as a puzzle adventure in Waldegrave Manor, where the disappearance of engineer Edward Lockwood and his wife Abigail leads into a dollhouse of unsettling rooms and contraptions. The publisher sums up the game as: “Explore unsettling locations, follow obscure clues and manipulate bizarre contraptions to uncover the mysteries within Waldegrave Manor.” (Fireproof Games.)

Most puzzles reward close inspection: zoom in, rotate or slide parts, and check for hidden catches. The eyepiece is essential. Open it from inventory and activate it where the colored veil appears; it reveals markings and mechanisms that are otherwise invisible. When an item seems to have no use, keep it and revisit earlier rooms and the dollhouse exterior. Progress is linked across locations, rather than confined to one room at a time.

- Use in-game hints if you are unsure which interaction you have missed.
- Books and journal entries provide story context. Coins, crests, model pieces, and mechanism parts are generally progression tools—not a checklist of optional collectibles.
- Room names below describe the puzzle locations, not necessarily a strict order for every step. Some later mechanisms depend on items from other rooms.
Attic: open the briefcase and enter the dollhouse
- Open the briefcase latches and take the screwdriver. Inspect the notebook, photographs, newspaper clipping, and map for the story setup.
- Use the screwdriver on the floodlight latch. Slide the two circuit pieces until they connect; the light reveals the dollhouse.
- Find the eyepiece in the briefcase’s hidden compartment and open its bronze knob. Look through it at the dollhouse entrance.
- In the hidden hallway puzzle, move the chair all the way left with its back against the wall, put the picture frame at the top, and leave the chandelier in the middle.
- Use the eyepiece to break the revealed symbol and enter the Foyer.
Foyer: solve the box, coins, and constellations
Find the first coin and family crest
- Inspect the etiquette book to find Abigail’s journal entry.
- Open the lower dial compartment of the odd box and collect the brass mechanical coin. Slide its sections into a pinwheel shape and insert it into the matching side slot.
- Use the eyepiece on the constellation field. Rotate the visible dials until the stars match the fixed yellow outline; take the family crest it reveals.
- Place the crest in its matching slot on the outside of the dollhouse.
Get the second coin and ornate panel
- Rotate the reindeer statue until the two dial arrows align. Take the silver mechanical coin and reshape it into the pinwheel form.
- Insert the silver coin into the box’s other side slot. Use the eyepiece and rotate the constellation dials to match the second fixed outline; collect the ornate metal panel.
Open the top of the box
- Uncover the two yellow buttons and press them at the same time.
- For the next mechanism, move the lock and turn the dial to expose matching button pairs. Press each pair simultaneously.
- In the three-button stage, reposition the top and bottom locks and rotate the dial to reveal each matching pair, then press each pair together.
- Take the strange artefact from the box and activate it to reveal a swan figurine. The Foyer’s black growth signals that this room’s main sequence is complete.
Dollhouse exterior: open the way to the Study
- Place the swan figurine on the empty pedestal by the gate. Take the model lamp from the drawer it opens and install it on the dollhouse’s missing lamppost.
- Fit the ornate metal panel into the empty balcony position at the back of the dollhouse.
- On the panel’s arrow puzzle, use the fixed pattern on the left as your guide. First use the four corner gears to point the middle arrow down; then set the corner arrows to top-left north, top-right northeast, bottom-left south, and bottom-right southeast.
- Use the eyepiece to break the newly revealed entrance seal and enter the Study.
Study: desk mechanisms and the model well
Open the roll-top desk
- Read Edward’s entry in the steam-engine manual.
- At the roll-top desk, move the circular selector through the growth sequence: seed, leaf, tree. Explore each compartment it opens and use the eyepiece where the colored veil appears.
- Take the fire steel from the quarter-circle compartment. Find the four-hole medallion in a small drawer on the black safe and separate it into its pieces.
- Use the shaped metal piece from the medallion to open the desk’s bar lock. Continue through the matching-symbol mechanisms until you obtain the crank handle.
Solve the crank puzzle and use its result outside
Move the red moon and blue triangle through the turning slot. Each shape flips when it crosses to the other side, so account for that inversion rather than treating the pieces as if they keep their orientation. The mechanism reveals a model well part. Take it to the yard and install it there to begin the next chain of mechanisms.

Kitchen and Study: complete the steam-and-electricity chain
- In the Kitchen, fit the metal handle to the cabinet. Use the fire steel at the furnace mechanism and turn its crank clockwise to ignite the coal and release the valve handle.
- Set the valve to route water through the pipes.
- Return to the Study. Close the steam outlet and position the paired handles to build pressure. Lock the horizontal pipe, route steam through the brass orb, and install the pipe connector.
- Use the powered central electrical machine. Its handles expose another strange artefact.
This sequence shows why it is worth returning to a room after finding a tool elsewhere: the Kitchen’s furnace and valve enable progress in the Study.
Curiosity Room: route light through the globe
The Curiosity Room’s globe puzzles use map pieces and light paths. Place each map piece into its matching globe slot, orient the highlighted region under the lens, and use the eyepiece to reveal the structure where the light must travel.

- For the tower, rotate the second, fourth, and sixth movable segments to create a continuous route for the light ball.
- Later structures include a pyramid and a ship. Reposition their segments, sails, vents, and connectors to carry the light to its goal.
Final globe laser route
In the final globe mechanism, move the portal-like pieces and reflectors so the laser reaches its destination. The published walkthrough illustrates these routes with diagrams; its text alone does not establish a reliable full set of positional instructions, so follow the visible beam and adjust the route piece by piece rather than relying on guessed positions.

Later rooms: follow the linked exploration
The remaining walkthrough covers the Maritime Room, Garden, Japanese Gallery, Art Studio, and a return to the Attic. The route is best treated as linked exploration: inspect new rooms, note what each mechanism asks for, then revisit earlier locations when an item or newly revealed clue fits. The available walkthrough identifies the room coverage and item sequences, but it does not establish one authoritative optional-collectible checklist or total.
Story records, puzzle items, and collectibles
If you are trying to complete everything, distinguish three categories rather than treating every inventory object as a collectible:

- Progression items: mechanical coins, the family crest, model lamp, ornate panel, map pieces, and mechanism parts. These unlock or operate puzzles.
- Platform achievements: achievement availability depends on the platform listing. Store listings do not establish a single cross-platform collectible total.
The walkthroughs by Rachel Robbins at Level Winner cover the puzzle route in two parts, but neither establishes a separately verified exhaustive optional-collectible list. Do not infer a collectible count or missable-item claim from the room walkthrough.
Hints, rollback, and compatibility help
If a puzzle seems stuck
Fireproof recommends checking the in-game hints in case a required action was missed, then restarting the app or device. Its help page also documents a hidden rollback menu: pause the game and tap the words “Game Paused” five times, then choose the rollback point for the last room opened. In that menu, “Attic” is near the end of the game, not the starting room. (Fireproof Games Help.)

Fireproof’s help page lists a Maritime Room Strongbox workaround: roll back to the Japanese Gallery and replay some progress. That note may be dated, so it should not be taken as confirmation that the issue remains present in current versions.
Check the version and device before troubleshooting
Fireproof lists OpenGL ES 3.0 and more than 1 GB of RAM as base Android requirements, while warning that a device can meet those specifications and still be incompatible. Apple lists the game for iPhone and iPad. Nintendo UK lists touch-screen and Joy-Con motion controls for Switch. Check the current store page for your device before buying or reinstalling; meeting a minimum specification alone does not guarantee compatibility.
Where to play
The Room: Old Sins is listed for PC on Steam, iPhone and iPad on the Apple App Store, Android on Google Play, and Nintendo Switch on the Nintendo UK eShop. Nintendo UK lists the Switch release date as 24 September 2026; Steam lists the PC release date as 11 February 2021. Prices, promotions, store ratings, and review totals change, so check the relevant listing for current details.
