The PSB iQ2 is a compact powered stereo pair that combines BluOS streaming, HDMI eARC for a television, a moving-magnet phono input for a compatible turntable and a wireless link between the two speakers. That combination makes it a compelling alternative for listeners who want one neatly integrated system without giving up true left-right stereo or physical sources. It is not proof that every Sonos setup is inferior: a fair comparison depends on the specific Sonos model, its inputs, price and room configuration.
What the PSB iQ2 actually is
PSB describes the iQ2 as its BluOS Streaming Powered Speakers. The product is a pair of powered bookshelf-style speakers, not a single all-in-one cabinet. Each speaker contains amplification, digital-to-analogue conversion and a driver system, while a wireless connection links the left and right channels. “All-in-one” therefore means that streaming and amplification are built in; it does not mean that the speakers are source-less or limited to streaming.

The iQ2 follows PSB’s Alpha iQ platform and is designed for music, television and vinyl. BluOS provides the main control layer, with access to more than 20 streaming services, personal music libraries and multiroom playback with other BluOS-enabled products. PSB’s launch material also names AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Qobuz Connect, although service support can change by region and software version.

TV without a separate soundbar
HDMI eARC is the direct television connection PSB highlights. A compatible TV can send its audio to the iQ2 pair while the speakers remain useful for music playback. eARC support can carry higher-bandwidth formats than ordinary ARC, but the formats ultimately available depend on the television and source devices.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Vinyl without an external phono preamp
The built-in moving-magnet phono input is intended for a compatible turntable. The cartridge type and the turntable’s output configuration matter: a turntable with a moving-coil cartridge, or one already set to line output, is not automatically the same match as a standard moving-magnet signal connected directly to a phono input.
Streaming and multiroom in one platform
BluOS is the core app and operating environment. It can bring streaming services, network libraries and multiroom playback into one interface, and PSB says the iQ2 can join systems containing other BluOS products. That convenience also creates dependence on the app and platform: account support, service availability and future software behavior are part of the ownership experience.

How setup and daily control work
- Place the two speakers with the powered/main speaker near your source connections and the second speaker on the opposite side of the listening position.
- Connect the speakers to power and complete the wireless stereo-pairing process shown in the BluOS app.
- For television, connect the TV’s HDMI eARC port to the iQ2 and select the appropriate audio-output setting on the television.
- For vinyl, connect a compatible moving-magnet turntable to the phono input and confirm whether the turntable’s own preamp is switched off when using its phono-level output.
- Use BluOS to sign in to supported services, add network libraries, adjust available equalisation and configure multiroom playback.
SoundGuys’ published review praised BluOS streaming, connectivity, the wireless stereo link, finish choices and touch controls, while criticising the app-heavy control approach and the price. SoundGuys disclosed that PSB supplied the review unit and that the review was expedited as a paid collaboration; it also stated that the publication retained editorial independence and that PSB did not preview or approve the article. Those are reviewer impressions, not universal performance findings.

Price, availability and the date problem

The current PSB product page surfaced at $1,699 per pair. These are conflicting dated price snapshots, not figures that can safely be blended into one “official” price. How to compare it fairly with Sonos
“Sonos” describes a product ecosystem rather than one specification. A useful comparison must name the exact Sonos model or configuration and examine the same criteria:
- Whether the system is a powered stereo pair or a single speaker, soundbar or passive-speaker arrangement.
- Streaming services, multiroom compatibility and the role of each company’s app.
- TV connectivity, vinyl support and the number and type of physical inputs.
- How the speakers communicate with each other and what happens if the network or app is unavailable.
- Dimensions, placement flexibility and whether a subwoofer output or separate subwoofer is required.
- The current complete-system price, including stands, add-on speakers or other required hardware.
On the information available, the iQ2’s strongest case is architectural: it gives a listener a compact, genuine stereo pair with streaming, TV and turntable inputs already integrated. It does not establish a categorical victory over Sonos, and published specifications alone cannot predict which system will sound better in a particular room.
Who should buy the iQ2?
- Choose it when: you want two-channel stereo, BluOS multiroom, HDMI eARC and a direct moving-magnet phono connection in one compact system.
- Plan carefully when: you need a specific physical port, a particular streaming service, a moving-coil turntable connection or guaranteed support for a named subwoofer.
- Look elsewhere when: you want to avoid app-based control entirely, need a single-cabinet speaker, or the verified local price is beyond your budget.
Verdict
The PSB iQ2 delivers the integrated concept many listeners associate with modern streaming speakers, but adds the separation, inputs and upgrade path of a conventional stereo system. Its BluOS dependence, changing software ecosystem, disclosed review context and unresolved regional pricing deserve attention. For a buyer seeking a small stereo pair that can handle streaming, television and compatible vinyl without a rack of components, it is a particularly coherent alternative to investigate—not a universally proven replacement for every Sonos configuration.
