1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe National Film and Television School’s 2026 Game Poems Jam turned the theme “The Other One” into a set of small, strange experiments: games in which a duplicate, a second queue, a reflection or another living thing changes what the player can do. Read through the critical account of selected entries, their appeal lies in the friction between game rules and poetic meaning—not in treating them as conventional stories with controls attached.
What is a game poem?
A game poem uses the actions and constraints of a game as part of its expression. A poem’s meaning can be shaped by its words, images and rhythms; a game poem can also make meaning through what a player is permitted to do, what they cannot do, and what they must repeat. Jordan Magnuson develops this idea in Game Poems: Videogame Design as Lyric Practice, which BiblioVault describes as exploring the convergence of game making and lyric poetry.
That framework suits “The Other One,” because the theme invites more than a literal second character. The other can be a possible self, a stranger, a reflection or a life governed by rules unlike the player’s own. The games’ mechanics can make those differences felt rather than simply explain them.
What happened at the NFTS Game Poems Jam?
The National Film and Television School (NFTS) launched its first public game jam through its Games Department on 7 September 2026. The 24-hour challenge asked participants to make a game poem around “The Other One.” NFTS reported receiving 91 submissions by noon on 8 September, a figure the school attributed to that point in the event rather than a final directory count. Its announcement also names Jordan Magnuson, Shuhei Yoshida, Claudio Pollina, Jenna Jovi, John Lau and Cash DeCuir among the judges. Yoshida, whom NFTS describes as a games industry veteran and former President and Head of PlayStation Indies, said, “Judging for the Game Poems Jam was a breeze!” NFTS’s announcement names The Other One by Boronho as first place, Faulty Mirror by Kevin Fungus as second, and Dot by Kozmozist as third.

How the selected games make “the other” playable
The critical account of the jam’s selected works highlights how a rule can complicate the idea a game seems to present. These descriptions and interpretations are reported from that article, not from an independent playthrough.
Sometimes I Wonder About The Other Me: choices made alongside a double
Luis “Ludipe” Díaz Peralta’s short platformer places duplicated player characters alongside text fragments. The article reads that pairing as a way of making alternatives and choice tangible: the second figure suggests another possible self, while the platforming structure turns that possibility into something the player encounters through action.

The Other Line: moving between competing queues
In The Other Line, the player switches between two queues. Rather than presenting “the other” as a character to meet, the work makes the player negotiate between parallel lines of progress. The switching itself becomes the expressive device: attention and movement are divided between two tracks.
The Imago: naming insects
The Imago asks the player to label insects. Its central action connects observation with classification: the player does not merely look at another form of life but applies names to it. That small act can invite questions about the distance between noticing something and understanding it.

Faulty Mirror: failing to match a reflection
In Faulty Mirror, the player attempts to match a restless reflection. The effort to make the reflected figure correspond to the player’s movements turns self-recognition into a problem rather than a given. NFTS named the game runner-up; the article’s account emphasizes the mismatch as part of its meaning.
Still Life: manipulating Conway’s Game of Life
Still Life works with Conway’s Game of Life, a cellular-automaton system whose patterns change according to rules. The player’s interaction with those patterns brings a different kind of otherness into view: life appears as a process shaped by constraints and transformations, not as a character with a voice.

Where to find the jam entries
The official NFTS Game Poems Jam page on itch.io is the submission directory. It identifies many entries as playable in a browser and includes works such as Sometimes I wonder about the other me, Faulty Mirror and The Other Line. The live listing can change, so an exact submission total should not be inferred from a particular snapshot of the page.
For readers interested in the concept behind the event rather than one entry, Magnuson’s Game Poems: Videogame Design as Lyric Practice is a relevant further reading source. BiblioVault’s catalog supports the book’s existence and subject; it does not establish current retail availability or price.
