Version 1.2.0416 GOG v3, released on 15 October 2026, adds modern controller support, controller hotplugging, improved task switching, five language localizations and verified compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11.
This is a maintenance and preservation update for the original game—not a patch for Oblivion Remastered and not a remake of the 2006 title.

What changed in version 1.2.0416 GOG v3?
GOG’s official changelog describes the release as a new GOTY version of the original game. Its changes focus on making the existing PC edition easier to run and play on current hardware rather than changing its graphics, quests or underlying game content.

- Five localizations: English, German, French, Italian and Spanish text and audio support are included in the updated GOTY version.
- Modern controller support: The update supports Sony DualSense and DualShock 4, Microsoft Xbox Series, Xbox One and Xbox 360 controllers, Nintendo Switch Pro, Amazon Luna, Google Stadia and NVIDIA Shield devices.
- Controller hotplugging: You can connect or disconnect a supported controller while the game is running.
- Improved controller layout: The default button arrangement has been optimized for the supported devices.
- Alt+Tab fix: Task switching is corrected for players who leave the game and return to it on Windows.
- Memory-leak fix: A leak that occurred while rebinding controller inputs has been fixed.
- Windows verification: GOG verified compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11 and validated the release’s stability.
Why this is being described as an update 20 years later
Oblivion launched in 2006. The GOG update arrived on 15 October 2026, roughly 20 years after the original release. The “20 years later” framing refers to the age of the game and the timing of this compatibility work; it does not mean that the original game has been rebuilt with the technology used by a modern remake.

The updated product remains The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – Game of the Year Edition Deluxe, the original PC edition distributed by GOG. Bethesda presents Oblivion Remastered as a separate product, so an update to the GOG original should not be expected to add the remaster’s visual overhaul or other modernization work.
What the update means for playing on a current PC
Windows 10 and Windows 11
GOG says the updated edition has been verified for Windows 10 and Windows 11. That is a compatibility assurance for the specific GOG build, not a promise that every mod, unofficial patch or third-party utility will work unchanged. Players using heavily modified installations should check each mod separately after updating.

Controllers
Earlier PC releases of older games can require workarounds or a separately configured input layer for newer gamepads. This release adds native support for a broad range of current and legacy controller families and allows hotplugging. The optimized default layout is intended to reduce setup work, while the rebinding memory-leak fix addresses a problem that could affect repeated input customization.

The updated GOTY version supports English, German, French, Italian and Spanish text and audio. The changelog identifies these as the available localizations; it does not establish additional languages.

Original Oblivion versus Oblivion Remastered
Both products are based on the 2006 role-playing game, but they serve different purposes. The GOG release is a preservation-focused distribution of the original presentation with modern compatibility work. Oblivion Remastered is a separate modernized product.

Why the Preservation Program matters
GOG says the Oblivion Game of the Year Edition Deluxe has joined its GOG Preservation Program. The program’s official stamp identifies classic games that GOG has improved for current systems and commits the company to maintaining compatibility. The product page labels this edition DRM-free, Windows-supported and maintained for modern systems.

GOG summarized the goal on 15 October 2026: “Now, both these adventures are accessible for years to come – so new players can discover them and longtime fans can return whenever the urge strikes.” The “both” refers to the original game and the separate remastered release, not two editions created by this patch.

- Choose the GOG original if you want the classic game presentation, DRM-free distribution and a build verified for Windows 10 and 11.
- It is especially relevant if you prefer a controller, because the update adds support for DualSense, DualShock 4, Xbox, Switch Pro and other listed devices, plus hotplugging.
- Choose the separate remaster if your priority is a modernized version rather than preservation of the original release.
The key distinction is scope: version 1.2.0416 GOG v3 makes the original Oblivion more practical to run and control in 2026, but it remains the original game.
