Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →东北之夏 (The Northeast Summer) is a free Steam visual novel built from 东百往事—also called 东北往事—the meme universe assembled from Northeast China short videos, catchphrases and later Bilibili edits. Rather than reproduce the clips as documentary evidence, creator 庄不纯 and a volunteer team turned their recurring figures into fictional characters, set the story in Shenyang, and added food, industrial history and an unexpectedly warm local portrait.
What 东百往事 actually is
东百往事 was never a single officially produced series. It is a fan-made collage of Kuaishou-era “土味短视频,” staged confrontations and personalities whose clips were repeatedly saved, reposted and re-edited. The best-known material centers on 虎弟 (later widely called 虎哥), 刀哥 and the 杀马特团长. Their lines became internet shorthand, including “全体目光看向我,” “指定没你好果汁吃,” “主播没活了可以咬打火机” and “这位更是重量级.”

The original accounts and videos largely disappeared during a 2018 platform cleanup. Bilibili users preserved fragments, labeled them “二次元” or “经典老番,” and built 鬼畜 edits that gave the material a second life. That remix process also helped shift the label from 东百往事 to 东北往事. A widely circulated edit by the Bilibili creator “请你喝好果汁” paired the clips with Wong Kar-wai-style dialogue and the song 《夏日漱石》; IT之家 reported that it passed 10 million views. IT之家’s January 17, 2023 account details that route.

TapTap’s contemporary description places the same phenomenon in a cycle of users “excavating, organizing, deconstructing and remixing” old short videos. It also lists the phrase “这位更是重量级,” “指定妹有你好果汁吃” and “没活儿不用硬整，可以去咬打火机” as recognizable language. The wording varies between edits; the meme is defined by circulation and mutation rather than one authoritative script. TapTap’s January 13, 2023 feature records those variants.

How the real figures become game characters
| Internet figure or motif | Game treatment | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| 虎弟/虎哥 | 虎妞 | A feminized, fictionalized character rather than a literal biography |
| 刀哥 | 刀酱 | Uses recognizable mannerisms and phrases in a new narrative |
| 杀马特团长 | Related characters and opposing side in the plot | Represents the conflict framework, not a documentary reconstruction |
The gender-swapped designs are deliberate. 庄不纯 first commissioned feminized illustrations of the meme figures; audience response encouraged him to develop the idea into a game. The result borrows names, visual cues and set pieces, but the player should not read its cast as verified biographies of the original men. The source clips themselves were heavily mediated by performance, reposting and editing.
From fan art to a volunteer-made production
庄不纯 released an interactive prototype after the character art drew attention. IT之家 reported more than one million Bilibili views for that prototype. A one-time 爱发电 funding campaign then attracted more than 2,000 participants. Fans—including developers employed by major game companies—volunteered to form 庄不纯工作室, turning a meme project into a coordinated production. The IT之家 feature describes this progression from illustration to prototype to team.

The creator has said he contacted 虎弟 and 刀哥 through livestream interactions and received oral permission to create from the meme material. That is a reported account of the project’s outreach, not a substitute for treating every in-game event as factual. He also visited Shenyang locations, researched local food and industrial history, and chose the name 东北之夏 because using “东百” might offend a Northeast resident. The title signals an attempt to move beyond shock clips toward a place-specific story.

The player controls 小亮, who meets 虎妞 and 刀酱 in Shenyang and is pulled into the conflict involving the 杀马特团长’s side. TapTap says the game restages recognizable moments such as the brick-breaking episode, 小亮’s backflip and a Shenyang-street challenge. Those scenes are framed as visual-novel events, with comic timing and character relationships rather than as raw video compilations.

Between confrontations, the game spends time on food, streets and the city’s industrial background. That localization is the adaptation’s main creative change: the meme’s aggressive catchphrases remain, but they sit inside a more sentimental account of Northeast life. The game therefore works both as fan service for people who know the edits and as an introduction to the regional setting for players who do not.

| Measure | Reported result | Source and timing |
|---|---|---|

The unusually rapid response reflects an existing audience: people who had already shared the clips, learned the catchphrases and watched fan edits could immediately recognize the game’s references. It does not mean every player experienced the source material in the same way, nor that the January ratings describe the game’s score indefinitely.

Calling the game “based on a true story” is misleading without qualification. The original personalities and some public clips are real, but many confrontations were staged performances, and the surviving narrative was assembled by reposts and edits. 东北之夏 uses that mediated folklore as source material, then changes names, gender presentation, chronology and context to make a fictional visual novel. Its truth is cultural rather than biographical: it shows how a platform-era performance became shared memory, then how fans reinterpreted that memory as a story about Shenyang.
Why the adaptation matters
Most meme afterlives flatten their subjects into isolated jokes. This one preserves the language that made 东百往事 recognizable while adding the city, work history and everyday details missing from short clips. Its production also reverses the usual direction of internet culture: instead of a studio licensing a viral property, a creator gathered fan funding and volunteer labor around material already being remixed by users.
That does not erase the source’s ambiguities. Viewers should distinguish the original male internet personalities from 虎妞, 刀酱 and the other game characters, and treat the reported oral permission as the creator’s account. Within those limits, 东北之夏 is a useful example of Chinese online folklore becoming a playable, locally grounded work without pretending that a chaotic meme archive is a conventional historical record.
