The Hartford has completed its acquisition of Equitable’s Employee Benefits business, the companies’ announcements confirm. The acquired operation brings approximately $500 million in premium, about 300 employees, a portfolio of group and voluntary benefits, and benefits technology into The Hartford’s business. The closing is confirmed; the public announcements do not spell out what, if anything, will change for existing customers.
What The Hartford acquired
The October 13, 2026 closing announcement says the transaction includes Equitable’s Employee Benefits business, its technology, and approximately 300 employees. The Hartford describes the business as representing approximately $500 million in premium. Those scale figures are company-reported approximations; the announcements do not present them as independently audited figures.

The acquired coverage portfolio includes:

- Paid family and medical leave

The technology is intended to support unified digital capabilities and real-time API integrations, helping brokers, employers, and employees manage benefits information across systems. The Hartford says the acquisition expands its product offerings and technology for small and midsize employers and advances its Employee Benefits growth strategy. In the August 4 announcement, chairman and CEO Christopher Swift said: “Small and midsize employers represent a strategic growth opportunity for our Employee Benefits business, and this transaction strengthens our ability to meet the evolving needs of this important business segment.”

After the closing, Swift called it a milestone for the company’s employee-benefits and small-business businesses. These statements explain The Hartford’s rationale; they do not establish how the acquisition will affect particular employers or employees.

What existing customers should know
The Hartford says it is integrating the acquired capabilities and intends to continue responsive support for existing customers and brokers. Mike Fish, head of Employee Benefits at The Hartford, said: “As we integrate these capabilities, we remain focused on providing our existing customers and brokers with the responsive service and support they expect from us.”

They also do not say that those things will remain unchanged. Customers and brokers who need account-specific answers should rely on communications from their benefits administrator or insurer rather than infer a change—or no change—from the acquisition announcement.
