The exact match for this headline was the 65-inch LG OLED65G2, a 2022-generation OLED Evo television listed by Amazon at £1799 against a stated £3299 launch price in a What Hi-Fi deal report dated 12 July 2023. That is a £1500 reduction, or 45% of £3299. It was a historical listing, not proof of a live 2026 price.
There is an important model ambiguity: What Hi-Fi reported the same £3299-to-£1799 pricing for a 65-inch LG G4 at Richer Sounds on 17 March 2025, bundled with an LG USG10TY soundbar. Check the model number and retailer on any current listing before buying.

What the LG OLED65G2 offers
OLED Evo panel and heatsink
The G2 uses LG OLED Evo technology and an added heatsink. What Hi-Fi described that combination as allowing the panel to be driven to higher brightness than the C2, while retaining OLED’s individually lit pixels, strong contrast and ultra-wide viewing angles. Tom Parsons of What Hi-Fi called it the best 4K picture quality LG then produced.
Gaming support
The deal coverage says the G2 supports every major gaming feature. That makes it relevant to buyers looking for a premium 4K gaming display as well as a film and television screen, although the deal report does not provide independent laboratory measurements for input lag, brightness or gaming performance.
Wall mounting versus a stand
A supplied wall bracket is part of the G2 package and is designed for a near-flush installation. A conventional tabletop stand is not included. If the television will sit on furniture, budget for a compatible stand and confirm its fit for the 65-inch OLED65G2 before ordering.
Why the headline may refer to a different LG model
A later What Hi-Fi report, dated 17 March 2025, described a separate Richer Sounds promotion for the 65-inch LG G4 at the same £1799 price, reduced from £3299. That offer included the LG USG10TY soundbar, which the report valued at £999.
G4 specifications reported with that promotion
- Second-generation MLA (Micro Lens Array) panel.
- Maximum brightness stated as 3000 nits.
- HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision and Dolby Vision IQ support.
- No HDR10+ or HDR10+ Adaptive support.
Those details belong to the G4 promotion and must not be attributed to the older G2. The G4 report also described the model as a substantial step forward over its predecessor, but the two deals were at different retailers and in different years.

| Model | Deal context | Generation and panel information | Included items noted in the reports |
|---|---|---|---|
| LG OLED65G2 | Amazon, reported 12 July 2023: £1799 from £3299 | 2022 model; OLED Evo with added heatsink | Near-flush wall bracket; stand not supplied |
| 65-inch LG G4 | Richer Sounds, reported 17 March 2025: £1799 from £3299 | Second-generation MLA; up to 3000 nits stated | LG USG10TY soundbar included in that promotion |
| 65-inch LG G5 | Successor context reported in March 2025: £3299 UK price | Newer successor generation; the cited report does not establish a matching £1799 deal | Not stated |
Before purchasing, match the full model code, screen size, retailer, bundle contents and return terms. A headline showing only “LG OLED” and two prices is not enough to distinguish the G2 from the G4.
What to check before paying £1799
- Verify the model: confirm whether the listing says OLED65G2, 65-inch G4 or another model.
- Confirm the retailer and date: the G2 price was an Amazon deal reported in 2023; the comparable G4 promotion was at Richer Sounds in 2025.
- Check the reference price: £3299 and the £1500 saving were the figures reported by What Hi-Fi, not a guarantee of today’s market price.
- Decide on installation: the G2 includes a wall bracket but no tabletop stand.
- Check bundle terms: the soundbar was part of the reported G4 promotion, not the G2 Amazon deal.
- Review stock, delivery and returns: historical deal coverage does not establish current availability or eligibility.
Is the historic G2 price still a bargain?
At £1799, the OLED65G2 represented a 45% reduction from its stated £3299 launch price and offered the higher-brightness OLED Evo design, heatsink and premium gaming support. Whether it is a good purchase now depends on the live price, remaining stock, warranty and how it compares with newer G-series models. The 65-inch G5 was reported at £3299 in the UK in March 2025, illustrating why generation and panel technology matter when judging an apparently large discount.
Do not assume that a current £1799 listing is the same deal: verify the model number and retailer first, then account for the separate cost of a stand if you are not wall-mounting.
