The Academy says the stream will be free, and the Associated Press reports viewers will not need an Amazon Prime subscription.
Where can you watch the Emmys in 2027?
The first ceremony under the agreement is the 79th Primetime Emmy Awards, expected in September 2027, according to the Associated Press. It will stream on Prime Video, which the Television Academy describes as the Emmys’ exclusive global streaming home for the six-year term.

The Academy says the event will be free to stream. The AP reports that viewers will not need a Prime subscription. The announcement does not specify every detail of how viewers will access the stream, or whether other distribution options will be available.
Are the Emmys leaving broadcast TV?
The change is from a broadcast-network rotation to a streaming arrangement with one continuing home. The AP reports that the Emmy telecast had appeared on a broadcast network every year since 1955, rotating among ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC for roughly the past three decades. The 2026 ceremony concluded that rotation.

It also does not define whether every related ceremony, red-carpet program or other ancillary event is included; the stated scope is the Emmy Awards.
What the six-year agreement means—and what it does not
Rather than changing hosts every year, the deal gives the Emmys a single streaming partner for six years, beginning in 2027. Television Academy chairman Cris Abrego told the AP, “With one partner over six years, we can really learn together and build from year to year together.”

Prime Video head Mike Hopkins said the company hopes to increase viewership and bring in a younger audience, but those are stated goals, not established outcomes. Neither the Academy announcement nor the AP report provides the agreement’s financial terms or an audience forecast backed by performance data.

No. The announced deal does not require viewers to buy a particular device. Amazon’s Fire TV documentation says Prime Video is available through the Fire TV home screen and app, so Fire TV is one way to watch on a compatible television—not a requirement.
